Guest guest
I've been using buffered vitamin C for my son, who is SCD & GFCFSF. Our compounding pharmacist told me that ascorbic acid (source of vitamin C for most vitamin Cs, including the buffered vitamin C I use) is corn-derived. Is this true? He recommended using sago palm vitamin C. Has anyone used this? Anyone know whether this will be as gentle on the GI tract as the buffered vitamin C is? Thanks, Angie
Guest guest
Hi Angie, Yes, most ascorbic acid is derived from corn, occasionally it's from citrus instead. We recently bought the Twinlabs brand of corn-free vit. C, which is palm-derived. It's called Allergy-C caps. That's probably what your pharmacist was referring to. It also contains calcium and magnesium. It is free of all corn and citrus, it contains gelatin, calcium stearate, MCT and silica. I called the company but didn't remember to write down the derivatives of the other ingredients like I usually do. The label says " the mineral carbonates are from the soil " . We haven't tried it yet. Guest guest
Angie and others, You can get a sodium ascorbate powder from BronsonLabs that is GMO-free and non-acidic. Too much sodium is not always good for you either though;). Jenn & K 10 months SCD buffered vitamin C -- corn? Guest guest
I have been thinking about that too, and on my last trip to the health food store I looked for it ... couldn't find any! I used to recall seeing a lot of it, but that was back in the 70's hippie days (long time ago, I'm old!) If you find a brand, can you post the name and your experience with it? Guest guest
I would find out what is it derived from. Most will say it is " corn free " but when you push them find out it IS derived from corn. They say it is " corn free " because the corn protein has been removed but that is not enough for sensitive people. My son could never handle vit C whether it was derived from corn or something else. Looks like it was an oxalate issue. fwiw, > > Re: Vitamin C, corn free. > > > Hi guys: > > Multi Element buffered C from Klaire Labs is free of corn. Guest guest
> klaire's vit c, multi element buffered c I don't know what it is derived from. you can email them and ask, they are great. I do know that they have the best quality products in the market, i use them for myself, my sister and my 15mo daughter. the three of us share terrible sensitivities and have had absolutely no problems with them. the only thing that I use that is not from klaire is the Houston enzymes and some oils, but the rest is only from klaire. it has been great for us. maria mom to fiol 15 mo asd For information on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, please read the book > _Breaking the Vicious Cycle_ by Elaine Gottschall and read the following > websites: > http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info > and > http://www.pecanbread.com > >
