Guest guest
Dear , If you go to the clos.net site there is an explanation of how the mgb differs from the old loop bypass. Dr. R's explanation is that the old loop put the intestine much closer to the esophagus and had a much higher rate of reflux problems than the mgb. Acid reflux is dangerous because it can lead to changes in the esophageal tissue and ultimately increases the risk of esophageal cancer. The mgb has a very low rate of post op acid reflux problems. I personally have had not one day of acid reflux in my 6 months post op. Prior to this surgery I had acid reflux daily, sometimes so bad I would wake up at night gasping and choking from it. I do not miss it and suspect I probably will not have problems. This is just my take on it, if someone else has other or different info please chime in here.
