Guest guest
" She is eating eggs, banana, chicken, cooked apple, cooked carrots and beans, DCCC, homemade yogurt and muffins baked with almond flour. " What do you mean by " beans " ? Green beans or some other type of beans? How many muffins per day is she eating? If she's already feeling better, then I would take that as a sign that the diet is helping. Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/
Guest guest
Ella's D would stop when we stuck with a basic diet and would scale back on the easy to digest forms of glucose--pearsauce, applesauce, butternut squash, and ripe bananas. Long time SCDers & Moderators which have been an absolute Godsend.... " go back to the basic diet and then add one food at a time allowing for a few days to see how your daughter reacts to the food " Get to good formed stools first before adding. This is the only way you'll know how your daughter tolerates each food. We'd get to " trophies " by feeding: Scrambled Eggs 1 ripe Banana & 2 Egg (sometimes 3 egg) banana pancakes Banana's--Ella probably had 1.5 banana's a day Organic hamburger 8%-15% Fat....She loved the higher fat with some Salt on top. Since she is skinny we don't mind the higher fat content. Tender Steak tenderloin....we bought at costco...not organic though we now use organic. Chicken Thighs Chicken Soup recipe at least twice a day with added bone broth for extra minerals, nutrients 1/3 cup welch's grape juice 3/4 water ...Twice a day...then water SCD Multi Vitamin Maybe it took her longer because of the illegals. We were ones that jumped in with both feet before really knowing. Though many have this learning curve. The success stories seemed to be too compelling not to. Our little girl was not doing well. We did it on the fly then learned more and filtered out the illegals. Most of what she was eating was without illegals. We were still buying applesauce for instance. THe bacon we gave her that said " honey and salt " actually had starch in it. Overall I think that Ella simply needed more time to starve out the bad gut bugs by going higher protein/fat content and allowing her intestines to heal. The more I learn as Newbie the more I realize these meats, eggs, chicken soup/bone broths, are full of the very thing UC/Crohns folks need... Vit B's, Folic Acid, Omega 3's, absorbable Iron. Ella was anemic for months with Iron supplements before the diet. In just over a month she started showing drastic improvements. Her stools would get to formed without any drugs except the SCD multi VItamin in one or two stools later after some softness would occur. She's still healing . We're looking to expand her diet again soon. We started the yogurt just a month ago(3.5-4months into the diet) again this time using Goat yogurt and per the Moderators approach here to go very very slowly..as in 1/8th tsp at a time. They will tell you how to go about this if you haven't read it already. We lived with a the basic diet for a long time and we're still not that far from it. Stool formation was our guide whether right or wrong. We tried to feed only what she could digest. Bananas....make sure they are ripe with spots! Also, bananas or too much pearsauce or applesauce late in the evening was too much for her. Her stools would loosen up. The DCCC, Yogurt, Muffins with Almond flour for Ella would have been way to early just 1.5 weeks into it. She showed an intolerance to Cow's milk so the DCCC wouldn't have worked. We tried cheese and that didn't work so well either. Many have said that almond flour is on the harder to digest list also and should only be used after D is cleared up per Elaine. We haven't started it yet but just got some from Lucy's and its in the offing. It can't be over stated. Thank you all who support this site, Moderatros, Longtime SCDers, Elaine Gottschall, Dr. Haas... This is just our experience; One storey. So many more here have lots more experience and intelligence about how to implement the SCDiet. I can say it is well worth your efforts to stick with it. We are sure glad we did. Guest guest
Hi, When I mentioned beans, I meant green beans. I believe I read in the book that green beans and carrots are usually well tolerated, so those are the only two vegetables she's eating now. I also forgot to say that she's eating cheddar cheese. We stopped anything with almond flour today in case that's the culprit. She was eating several muffins or pancakes a day. She's hungry and doesn't care for the chicken soup so it makes very difficult. Thanks > > " She is eating eggs, banana, chicken, cooked apple, cooked > carrots and beans, DCCC, homemade yogurt and muffins baked with almond > flour. " > > > What do you mean by " beans " ? Guest guest
To give her more variety without the almond flour, try making banana pancakes, sneaky veggie pancakes and chicken pancakes. Same foods, different presentation. Also try freezing the bananas, then slice them. It tastes like ice cream. You could also make the ice cream recipe (the one from eggs) from the website. Just leave out the strawberries. They aren't necessary. My kids like chicken pancakes dipped in applesauce. Sounds weird, I know. But they like it. I would definitely back off on the nut goods. She's not been on the diet that long yet. Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/
Guest guest
Are the beans the french cut green beans? Does she eat the apple peel? Guest guest
Hi, Couldn't help but notice the " IBD " ....I assume this is irritable bowel disorder....I have had this most my life....I can't tolerate the yogurt yet (only eating 3 teaspoons of goat yogurt/since easier to digest/a day for the probiotic benefits...will not be trying cheese any day soon either...causes me horrible cramping and rage attacks......may be the cuprit to her IBD continued problems if this was the case...jumping in. It has always been my understanding and experience that Dairy and IBD don't do well with each other. It's the lactose in the dairy that's the problem and that's gone with the yogurt and older cheeses are ok too. Though not for everyone. Guest guest
Hi, Actually IBD stands for Inflamatory Bowel Disease, meaning Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis. I sometimes use the general name since the Dr. is not sure which one my daughter has. The treatment is the same (for us, at this point anyway). > > > > " She is eating eggs, banana, chicken, cooked apple, cooked > > carrots and beans, DCCC, homemade yogurt and muffins baked with > almond > > flour. Guest guest
Did your daughter eat soup before she started SCD? If yes, can you try to make different things with the chicken soup? I made the chicken stock and have 3 different soups from it. Chicken stock with beef stewing meat (I cooked the meat first and then added it to the chicken soup). Pre-SCD I had a recipe for hamburger soup. It tasted really good. I'd brown the hamburger first and add it to the chicken stock. I cooked the carrots in the chicken stock, removed them and creamed them in the blender and then returned them to the soup. It was a bright orange soup. I added chicken pieces to the soup. (Note: I added salt to all the soups.) I hope that this helps!
