Guest guest
Sara, I'm hoping my husband will go to the clinic with me and maybe that will reassure him. My health has been affected (I'm diabetic) but he feels I should continue with traditional type of control. The problem is they don't work. I have a BMI 41. Guest guest
Hi all you nurses, doctors and other health professionals out there, I just picked up my blood test results to take to the hospital with me, and three of the values are out of the norm, and I want to know if any of you know if any of them are cause for concern, or if I will have any problem getting to have the surgery with these results. First, my carbon dioxide was low at 18. The norm is supposed to be 20-32. I have noticed on blood tests before that my carbon dioxide has been low, and no one has ever said anything to me about it, so is it perhaps not that important? Second, on my CBC something called the RDW was high at 14%. The norm should be 11.6-13.7%. What is RDW and should I be worried? Third, again on the CBC something called the MPV was low at 7.2. The norm is 7.4-10.4. Again, should I be worried and what is MPV? Thanks for your help. I am very paranoid that something will keep me from having this surgery on Aug. 2nd, and I would be very sad if that happened. Guest guest
Hi Jeanne, Thanks for the info. I don't have any breathing problems, so I don't know what's going on with the carbon dioxide thing. I really hope none of it is a problem. You mentioned in another post that your husband is not too excited about the surgery. I have been married for almost 22 years. My husband is very supportive of me having this. I think because he has seen me try and try and struggle and struggle with diets and exercise and losing some weight but always gaining more again. He has seen how devastated I have always been after each failure. He has also seen my health get worse over the years as I have gotten bigger. He wants me to be healthy. He truly doesn't care that I am fat as far as my looks are concerned. He thinks I am beautiful (I guess it is true that you can be " blinded by love " LOL). He does realize that I will probably live a longer and much more happy life if I have this surgery. My BMI is 43 which means I have a 179% greater chance of dying than a normal weight person. He wants me to be with him for a long, long time! Maybe your husband is worried because of the risks of surgery. Maybe he is afraid something will happen to you. Maybe if you could show him the statistics about the MGB such as the low complication rate and how well it works at curing so many problems associated with obesity, then he would feel better about it. This is truly a life saving surgery. It usually cures Type II diabetes as well as other things like high blood pressure, reflux, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, etc.. Maybe if he understands that this will improve your health and probably lengthen your life, he will support you. I'm sure he wants what is best for you; he just has to understand that this is what is best. I wish you the best! Sara JBarton101@... wrote: > Sara thanks for your reply and the additional sites. Guest guest
If you husband cannot support you in something that is this important to you and to your health. Sound like ya'll need to talk more or you need to put some serious thought into what is important to YOU! I gave a man 17 years of my life...and then poof! he changed women!
