Gel Nails for Surgery?

Help all post-ops!

I have a gel coating over my nails (not acrylics) and had not planned

on removing the gel prior to surgery. The gel is clear and my nail

color is visible through the gel. I wear clear polish and had

planned on removing the polish only, not the gel.

I was gently warned that they may not be acceptable. I certainly

don't want to be refused surgery because of my nails!

I vaguely remember reading something about acrylic nails being

unacceptable, but cannot find the reference to it in the Patient

Manual. Does this apply to gel?

If gel is unacceptable, can I remove only one nail?

Sorry to spend time on a rather " vain " issue, but I have spent enough

money over the last few years that I don't want to waste!

Thanks for any thoughts!

No need to remove anything. Mine were with a French

manicure and they never asked me to remove my polish.

I did leave polish off my toes as they can use the

pulse ox on toes as well as fingers.

Thanks, Judi! And thanks to Blair for the reminder--I'll sleep

better (if that's possible 1 week before mgb)!
