Guest guest
Hi: There are side affects to the surgery. None so serious that we can't joke about them though. And actually we are exaggerating in order to be funny! When Trish was a few weeks post-op she vomited bile. It is green and we teased her no end. We are still teasing her. A few of us vomit occassionally...so we kid that if you vomit you're a member of the green slime team. Many of us have never vomited at all and had no bile problems. (I wouldn't know what it was if I saw it). As to gas...some of us have it, some don't. I have less than I did pre-op. Some of us burp and some of us express this gas in another way....I don't know what the tally is on who has gas and who doesn't...I suspect it's more joking about it than actual gas though. Most of us have reported a kind of " gurgling " when we were first post op or when we ate too fast. This is not unusual, doesn't hurt, and in my case went away. If you're easily grossed out, stop reading here. As to the orange...here's where we get sensitive but I think it's something that pre-ops and more particularly new post-ops should know about. When Amy was a few weeks post op, maybe even a month, she posted that she was having an orange discharge (actually only happened once following a salad with a high fat salad dressing). Others chimed in as to their theory as to what this could be. Some blamed Citrucel (wouldn't we like to make a case against that stuff) Then someone posted about yellow poop. Others chimed in. There are a few of us (and yes, I'm one of these gross individuals) who if they eat high fat foods (salad dressing, the leaded kind like ranch, bleu cheese, etc.) do have bowel movements with orange fatty stuff in it. Some of us to the point where we use sanitary napkins just in case. There. Yuck. I've said it. I don't know how many of us there are who have this problem and I suspect there are some who do but won't own up to it. I watch what I eat and do not eat fatty foods...because sometimes there is no feeling and no warning...just a greasy discharge. I don't know if this is permanent or temporary. But for those of us who have experienced out of the norm poopies...we are the orange team..all lumped together by which orifice. Green is the mouth...orange is, well..as Dr. R would say, " the end " . A few have said that the odor in the bathroom is worse than before. I have not experienced this but this is what some have expressed. I suspect some of it is more joke than fact but I'm not sure since it's not something that some people will own up to. Bottom line: our plumbing is changed. There are going to be changes. Some are not very pleasant. Some people are willing to talk freely some are not. But the point is that we probably do exaggerate some; we kid a lot; and none of the side affects that we kid about are life threatening at all. There. I've put it all out on the table...so to speak. Guest guest
WOW FLO, You have so graciously expressed the trials and tribulations of the MGB. I will say my bouts of unfriendly gas are very few and far between. Sometimes what I eat doesn't like me and produces a fowl gas. I try to save this for Randy and pay him back for 28 years of his gas attacks.....ha...ha...just kidding!!! Actually I wish there was something the good Doc could prescribe that would help alleviate this problem when it occurs. I have not been able to pinpoint what foods are causing it. It's a real mystery. The attacks of the orange tidy bowl ring are just as mysterious. Sometimes pizza will cause it and sometimes not. Sometimes barbeque ribs will cause it and sometimes not. I just try to go with the flow..... :-) :-) Love, Genz florence@... wrote: > Hi: > There are side affects to the surgery.
