Guest guest
Hi all, I have very dry skin that flakes continuously. Because my skin is so sensitive I can only use water on it, as if I attempt to use a moisturiser or exfoliator I flare badly. At present I remove as much flakiness as possible with moistened cottonballs, which is very time consuming and does not get rid of all the flakes. Keeping in mind how sensitive my skin is, does anyone have any suggestions. I also have trouble with hair conditioners causing flares even though I am careful not to ever let it touch my face. Until recently I used Sunsilk Conditioner for Dry Hair which was pretty good but they have changed their formulation and it is making rosacea worse. If anyone (with same sensitivity to hair products) has found one that causes no problems please let me know. Thanks, Anne
Guest guest
Hi, I find that the best time to remove any flakey skin that I have, is near the end of a warm shower. My skin becomes quite moist by then and I VERY gently begin to use my fingers to roll off the dead skin. I use circular motions to kind of roll it off. The same way that the skin on your feet comes off after a bath - not that many of us are sitting in baths these days but remember way back when... I use a thin film of moisturiser (Keri lotion fast absorbing sensitive skin ) every night straight after I wash ( Mercier cleanser) so that my flakes stay moist, if that makes sense. If you are using makeup you may notice that at the end of the day you can start to just roll off the skin (like eraser bits). I find that if I keep the flakey patches moisturised they come off easier than if they were bone dry. And I know that moisturiser is not supposed to be good for seb derm but I have found that to be the opposite for me - maybe because the easier it is to remove the flakes the better off my skin is after. Keeping the flakes off makes my skin look better. I don't do this every day only about every two or three days. Also, I don't wear makeup any more so the pores don't become clogged up with the flakies and cause zits. I find that the more products on my skin the worse it ends up. At this point I use a cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen (Estee Lauder Day Wear). Another thing I found useful when I did wear makeup was the Body Shop face chamois - for some reason it helps the flakes ball up. The first time I used it I was amazed at how many flakes were balling up all over my face. It is very soft and lasts along time. Hope this helps - my skin was also very sensitive but I was able to stop all products and just let my skin be while I was pregnant. When I felt it was no longer so sensitive I slowly started adding products again - starting with Pampers baby wipes to clean my skin and then a bit of moisturiser and sunscreen. After almost 6 months I graduated to the Mercier cleanser which is the most gentle water soluble cleanser I have ever found. I don't know what to suggest for the conditioner other than using something out of the shower - I used to put aloe vera gel in my hair. I think that it is important to keep the scalp moisturised as well. Take care - Leah
Guest guest
I recently found a moisturizer that my skin tolerates and really helps with extreme dryness. It is called Complex 15. I purchased it at Walgreens. I'm sorry I don't have a list of the ingredients but if I remember correctly it seemed to have fewer ingredients than other moisturizers. It is also very inexpensive - only @ $7 for a tube. I've been searching since the beginning of the year for something that would moisturize and not irritate my face and I think I've finally found it. I also discontinued the use of Noritate which I have used for years. I think that in the past year it has begun to dry my skin rather than help it. I also have begun using only bottled water on my face for cleansing - takes a little longer but I think my face is in better condition for it.
