We had dextromathorphan compounded for Tom's cough, but we needed a

prescription from his doctor first. Five days and $37 later, the WSJ

had an article saying that basically, most cough medicines are

ineffective.

I still think it helped a little. I took some for my own cough and it

did help me pass a few cough-free nights.
