Dear Jeni,

Thank you...there is no doubt that God has been behind this entire process of

saving my family since 15 months ago, when I fell to my knees for the answer to

stop my daughters suffering. No doubt. To many GODINCIDENCES! What a road we

have been on. I am so grateful to have this list serve and after this message

will buy the book! This is scary, because I just filled out all the paperwork

for the DAN...and it is now obvious why we are all so sick.

Yes we are healing...not as fast as I would want...but unbelievably better than

just 49 days ago! Thank you! KiKi is watching " Dora the Explorer " ....as I

write on the computer.....she never could do this before (never could watch TV

or cared!)...she is dancing and clapping to the song with her four year old

brother...this is a miracle all in it self...everyday I thank God for his

guidance! Thank God!

It is hard not to be resentful....you see it is not just her.. it is my son

(four years old (ADHD)...thankfully not as sick...celiac husband (ADD)...and

adopted daughter who is showing early signs of LUPUS!, already diagnosed with

Hyperekplexia). Then top this off with my life being stolen from me, never

celebrated the joy of being a child...always sick

...the DAN office was shocked when I asked them if I could take the " autism

assessment " tests also before my appointment with him......... " you think you

have autism? " they asked a little baffled.... ....I said..... more like I have

known...but didn't know.....many times being misdiagnosed......now it is

something you can't miss when your entire life has been affected by having

undiagnosed Celiac Disease (for close to 37 years) and the affects of it on your

brain, body, organs and skeletal system!

When one reads about ASD it is OBVIOUS! They agreed when I shared some

symptoms. I took this assessment...and although obviously high

functioning.....and high IQ.....it is obvious.....how can a person not have

damaged intestines and not have their brain affected in such a way? REGARDLESS

OF AGE of when it is finally detected. The DAN office said he could help me

too!

Pray for my/our continued strength...my extended family and neighbor friends do

not get it...nor would I trust to share this. They think it is " just " celiac

disease!

Warm Regards and yes without my faith I would be lost right now, I cry as I

write this....yet know we are at the end of a night mare and not the beginning

like last December 2004 when KiKi " vanished " . What a messenger she has been to

her family...an " earth bound' angel.....before her we didn't eve know about the

Celiac Disease in all of us! Without her I would have died young like many

undiagnosed Celiacs...my mother, aunt and uncle and sister where four

of them. Now I get to get old and hold my grand babies!

Dear Antionette,

Just breathe. I know this is so scary. Last September, I was right where you

are when we found out that Elle had high lead and other metal levels that could

cause her to regress into autism. The problem worsened for me when I realized

that my other two were manifesting subtle symptoms of ASD as well and also had

heavy metal poisoning.

Try not to panic because you are already beginning to take care of the

problem. Remember your other night when Kiki was riding the scooter? She is

already beginning to " reconnect " her brain passageways. You have already

started everyone on the path to recovery.

Your DAN Dr. most likely will talk to all of you about chelation. You should

probably get on the internet, maybe try to get on the chelatingkids2 list serve

so that you can begin to learn about chelating options and whether this is

something you want to pursue or skip. Jacquelyn McCandless book is basically a

must read (keeping in mind that you stay with SCD and not GF/CF). She discusses

heavy metal removal quite a bit in her latest edition.

You have a lot of things working in Kiki's favor. 1) She is a girl. There is

something about estrogen that provides an added measure of protection to the

brain. 2) She is young. The kids that respond the best to these treatments

receive help before 5 yrs. old. There certainly are great stories of recovery

for older children too; however, it is common knowledge that the earlier you

catch them, the more likely they will improve. 3) You are already doing SCD

which in my opinion is the best dietary intervention you can do for ASD kids.

You have already seen tremendous improvements in her. REMEMBER THIS: YOU ARE

ALREADY SEEING THE HEALING BEGIN!

You all are going to be fine. God has brought you to this list and led you to

your DAN with the intention of helping your family. This will be a very long

and hard journey. But we are all in this together. We are going to see change,

and we are going to cause change. And the people who are responsible for the

damage done to us and are children are accountable before God. One day, whether

it be in our life time or the " next one " , there will be justice. In the

meantime, the Bunce Zoo has already started the healing process. Your nightmare

will one day be over.

I wish I could take this away for all of us. But here it is. So I find that

I just have to be thankful that we have been given a big part of the answer.

Others are not so fortunate (either because they don't know or don't want to

know).
