Guest guest
Dear Grammy, I saw Dr. Megson yesterday. I asked her if she would like to be recommended as an SCD friendly doctor. She said, " Absolutely! " She says that it isn't always the first diet she recommends simply because as parents are beginning to find out about their children's diagnosis, the labor of the diet will put many people " over the edge. " However, she feels it is better than GF/CF, and if the parents are willing to do it, she is very supportive of their choice. In our appointment yesterday, she commented that my children have the " ideal childhood " because I have them on SCD as well as homeschool and stay-at-home with them. This was such a boost for me because I lot of times I am criticized for these same things. Jeni Lynn (gastrointestinal problems) SCD 1 month mom to Margeaux, 6 yr. Guest guest
Hey Jen, Yes, she is one of the best DANs in the nation. She has the highest recovery rate of autistic patients in the country (at least that is what I have been told by a couple different sources). She does not take insurance because they do not reimburse very well for the treatments and labs she seeks out for her kids. However, her office does provide forms that you can file with your insurance agency on your own (which is what we are doing). She worked with the insurance companies for a long time, but she was facing the possibility of needing to close her practice since the insurance " reimbursements " weren't covering the bills and the salaries of her staff. So rather than close her practice, she had to stop taking insurance. Unfortunately some DANs have this dilemna. As I understand it, Dr. Mumper is currently having to make the same decision. Due to all this, the initial appointments and labs that she runs on her patients do cost quite a sum. But she is so fantastic that I think it is worth the expense. We are currently taking all three of our kids to her, and I don't regret spending a single penny even though there aren't many pennies left. I would do it all over again and again and again. She is well informed, constantly researching, LOVES her patients, and yet she will many times still defer to the parents' wishes, observations, and opinions because she knows that we know our kids best. She is very supportive of any parent that chooses SCD and admires the parents that are willing to choose it in spite of it being more labor intensive than other recommended diets. In case you can't tell, I love Dr. Megson. My kids are recovering from their issues, and this woman gets a large share of the credit for that. Without the guidance of her and her nutritionist, Payne (also familiar and supportive of those on SCD), I am certain that Elle would have regressed into some degree of autism at this point. Margeaux would still be having social and cognitive problems due to her ADD (these problems have basically disappeared already). And would be following in Margeaux's footsteps. All these things are changing in our home. SCD and this list are major factors in our progress, but Dr. Megson and Payne have been the primary individuals to lead us out of this nightmare (partially because they suggested this diet). I am so thankful to the Lord for bringing us to their doorstep when He did. LONG LIVE DR. MEGSON AND MICHAEL PAYNE 8) ! Jeni Lynn (gastrointestinal problems) SCD 1 month mom to Margeaux, 6 yr. Does she take insurance? Still stuck without a lot of help here and getting depressed from the plateau instead of seeing more progress. I think K has a phenol isuue which I found that vaccines are loaded with(phenols). I ahven't dealt with this yet except for taking those foods away. Not sure if she can take enzymes of gastrocrom and have no more $ to buy them anyway. Guest guest
How much would the first appt. be? We are in the process of doing a benefit for Kali for the month of April. We have no credit cards, and my husband is the only one who works. We pinch pennies just to live. We are in the process of losing our trailer and only vehicle. Please pray for Kali. Can you give me a phone # for her? We were going to try to get her into Dr. Bradstreet but, he is currently not taking any new patients and we live in NY. Thanks, Jenn & K Re: Grammy, yes Megson says she is " SCD Friendly " > > > > Jeni Lynn, > > Thank God!! > > Agape, > > > > furryhalfpint > wrote: > > Dear Grammy, > > > > I saw Dr. Megson yesterday.
