After surgery, you take Prevacid and Carafate for one month to prevent

ulcers. You begin taking these immediately after surgery. Either one

or two weeks after surgery, you als begin taking Actigall, which is a

bile salt, and you take that for six months. This is to prevent you

from getting gallstones in your gallbladder and having to have your

gallbladder removed due to the extra demands on it during your rapid

weight loss.

A teaspoon of Citrucell every day forever and five Tums (for calcium)

everyday forever.

http://www.clos.net/dcinstructions.htm

However, some of the information on that page is out of date, i.e., I

think it refers to Prilosec instead of Prevacid.

After the surgery, you can *feel* your stomach a whole lot better --

maybe a hundred times better -- than you ever did before. Things that

are large, hard, and lumpy feel exactly that -- large, hard and lumpy.

Especially in the first months after surgery, as soon as something like

that hits your stomach, you may feel like you need to throw up. You

probably won't throw up, but the feeling is annoying nonetheless. So

some people tolerate the pills better cutting them in half.

Personally, I just eat something first so the pill doesn't seem to " hit

bottom " and I don't have any problem with them, but other people have

more sensitive stomachs than I do, too.
