Guest guest
Hi Becky, I always try to find out why things go wrong with the yogurt. Please send me the post number of these SCD stories on the GFCFkids list. I used to search for SCD on that GFCFkids list and the one SCD person who did return to GFCFkids was a mother named M-----. M,from what I recall used the cow yogurt(not what we recommend). She found out that her son did great with SCD in the beginning but that afterwards, the improvements did not last. She returned to GFCF because she was expecting a 4th or 5th child and did not have the time to implement a diet that was not producing great results. There was no casein horror story, just a mother who was overwhelmed. I am willing to send you links to M's posts in private email for you to check or you may ask M if we can repost some of her old emails to our list. I did not check the GFCFkids list for awhile so there might be new reports. It sounds strange that a parent would return to GFCF just because their kid did not tolerate the yogurt since we ask the parents to wait until there are IMPROVEMENTS in the gut before trying the yogurt. We have had some parents who found out that their children did not tolerate the yogurt but the bad reactions discontinued shortly after the yogurt was eliminated. The parents then resumed dairy free SCD. Why run back to GFCF if you saw gut improvement with your child prior to trying the yogurt? Our website is full of recipes that are dairy free;there is no SCD police to come to your house and force you to eat the yogurt. My guess is that these parents tried the yogurt right at the beginning of the diet, saw some die off to SCD and were so scared of casein that they blamed the yogurt for the die off AND NEVER EXPERIENCED THE GREAT RESULTS WITH SCD. I have been very actively participating on the SCD lists for children since the first SCD children's list began. Yes,we have had some bad reactions but they last about a week after you stop the yogurt. The worst that I remember was a child who had a reaction that lasted 3 weeks but the mother blamed herself for increasing the amount of yogurt too fast. Casein, unlike gluten, leaves the body very fast. Mimi > I recall when I was on the GFCF list, we would get an occasional > post from parents going back to GFCF after having regression on SCD > using the yogurt. Now I don't know the circumstances of how " well " SCD > was done, but do recall that. Note that this has not swayed me from > trying to fine tune their dietary intervention by switching from GFCF to > SCD. > > We each really only see a sliver of the experiences of people who have > tried SCD, successes or not.
