Well, in reference to this line - I would like to shed a little light: AS we

all know

obesity is often misunderstood. So is anxiety. I could be standing in line

to buy a newspaper and have an anxiety attack - this in no way means I am not

ready to buy the newspaper. I do indeed understand the point you are making,

and I do understand tshi may be true for the MAJORITY of people, but there

are many of us who have anxiety disorders for which we are on daily meds (I

am on a half valium each morning as xanax didn't do the trick for me, and I

know other who are on xanax daily) the problem is when we have this disorder,

then we take ourselves off for the 2 weeks prior to surgery for safety during

surgery, but that is 2 weeks of anxiety! In these cases simple meditation

does not work! Unless you have had a real anxiety attack in which there was

no apparent cause for (ex., nothing going " wrong " ) you will never understand

that deep breathing just will NOT do sometimes! Think of the worst headache

you have EVER EVER had, would deep breathing cure that as oppsed to taking a

couple of pain relieving pills?

I just wanted to open some minds so you could see that I am in no way 2nd

guessing myself or the surgery, I want this more than anything in my life, I

understand ,as any educated person does, there ARE risks involved, and I am

willing to take the risks. I feel the risks of the surgery outweight the

risks of remaining obese. Nonetheless, it IS a surgery (WITH NEEDLES _ AHH)

and I DO have an anxiety disorder, so YES I will be ANXIOUS the day of my

surgery, and if Dr. R. feels it is in my best interest to not have meds, I

will understand that he is doing that for my own well being and I wil have

to deal with it as I have had to these 2 weeks, I will just know that it can

only go better, which is my motto as of now!

I don't want to start an all out attack, so understand I AM NOT aiming this

at anyone or being defensive, I just feel strongly that this is a disorder

which needs to be understood - as I try to express to my friends and family

members who say- " oh, just take some deeps breaths and think of a calm

beautiful place! "

Good Luck to all . . I have only 8 days left!!! YIPPEEEEEEEE

,

I know how debilitating an anxiety disorder can be. Those who are afflicted

with one and/or don't have anyone they know afflicted with one misunderstand.

Anxiety disorders have no rhyme or reason and certainly have no logic.

Today going to the store is fine (as it has been fine your entire life) but

tomorrow you could have a full blown anxiety attack for no apparent reason

doing the same thing you have done daily for your entire life.

You should talk to Dr R and talk to the Dr who prescribed your anxiety

medications to insure that you aren't going cold turkey needlessly. I'm

certain they can talk Dr to Dr to insure that you are adequately protected

from needless emotional pain.

Call them both. My prayers are with you.

Several years ago I started having anxiety attacks just out of the blue and they

would hit me at the strangest times. I still have them occasionally and I've

decided that they are hormonal - I'm still trying to get through menopause and

wish all that stuff would just go away but, I guess, all in good time.
