Guest guest
Hi Kari, We hold a fundraiser every year. I'm not real good at asking people face to face for money. And now that I don't work, I just don't meet enough people. Now I'm probably going to offend a few people here, but I'm going for it anyway. We hold it at a little out-of-the-way local bar. It's in a shopping plaza that has pretty much closed down except for the pizza joint next door. We have several band's that donate their time. And we serve hot dog's, chip's and other little munchie food. Over the years we have added face painting, a clown, a raffle. Last year we even had someone lend us a dunking booth. Then made a friendly game of who they could raise more money to dunk, Josh's mom or Josh's dad. Let's just say I got wet for a good cause! In case you are wondering...we take over the whole parking lot of the shopping plaza, so Josh and the rest of the kids stay mainly outside. Someone even brings in a RV so he can have time alone for treatments. Every year is a bigger success than the last. We learn what works and what doesn't by trial and error. And we depend on a lot of support and word-of-mouth advertising from family and friends. Oh, and don't forget to contact your local news whatever you decide to do...never pass up a chance to be on TV and increase CF awareness. Hope this helps, Fund raiseing-help please > Hi I want to get some more ideas on fund raisers, can anyone give me > some of their personal experiences. Guest guest
Kari - The Bake sale was wonderful. We had it at our local hospital. It took about a week to get all of our friends together and have them deliver baked goods to three of us that ran the event. We had everything pies, quiche, cookies brownies, homemade applesauce and even homemade sponge candy! We also had a basket raffle 10 baskets to go with it. We sold tickets and had the people write their name and phone number on them. Most of the customers were doctors, nurses , hospital personnel. We also have a Jeans for Genes day at our local school to increase awareness of CF and the teachers get to wear jeans on a Friday for $5.00 to the foundation. It's simple just get prior approval from the principal or superintendent , put up posters, have the nurses or secretaries collect the money. We give out stickers for everyone to wear. Good luck and e-mail me anytime if you need help. Hugs - Kathy G. Mom to 8 w/ CF. Guest guest
Kari, I am the queen of inventing new fundraising events that end up costing me more time, money and energy than I end up raising. In my experience, here is what works the best. 1. Get help. Get plenty of help. Then, get more help. 2. Give yourself plenty of time. 3. Make friends with the news crew, the news director, a newspaper, a radio show (like a bunch of crazy morning guys who have a good following). 4. Get visual ads (posters, flyers, coupons) wherever you can. 5. Use a photo and short story on all advertising pieces. 6. Give all the places you go (radio stations, newspapers, etc.) a press release with the photo/story on it. Make it look as professional as possible. A little drama is okay too. 7. Focus on one event at a time. I recently did a CLIMB for a CURE event as a tie-in to the GREAT STRIDES Walk, and people got confused. 8. Call the places again. Or follow up with an email. It's hard not to feel like a pest, but it does get a better response. 9. Get more help. 10. Get even more help.
