Guest guest
Fliss, I agree with all that you have said and it makes sense to me that there will be regional, and national differences in approaches. It does seem like a really long time to be in the hospital the way your hospital does it. Like I said I was out in 9 days and I didn't feel like that was too quick. I could move well enough, pain was under control by pills and patches alone. Yes, there is no reason why a hospital that is taleneted enough to do total pancs and islet cell transplants can't keep your comfy. I elected to use an epidural but because it only offered partial coverage I ended up on both the epidural and a PCA (pump) with dilaudid. That worked great. It wasn't until I went off the pump and on to pills did I experience any significant discomfort. It hurt like hell when they turned the pump off! They took the epidural out a day before the pump. I think they moved me down to pills too quickly, but I lived. Oh well I am probably driving this in to the ground now; sorry about that. But I suppose its all fresh enough to me (4 months only) that the surgery is still a focal point of my thoughts. be well, Bert
