Gosh, this was about 2 years ago when we were new to GFCF. I just recall

reading about this and was curious about what SCD was as I'd never heard

about it since I was new to any type of dietary intervention. Sorry.

This may be the same person. Though I thought it was goat yogurt. I

recall thinking " gross " , LOL.

Yes, and like I said, I don't recall the conditions under how the yogurt

was used. That may very well have been the case. I was just getting a

handle on GFCF at the time and SCD was not even on my radar. I just

remember reading posts and thinking " wow, I can't believed they tried

dairy " , at the time I was very much into the 'no dairy' mindset. I also

recall reading something about it on one of the GFCF websites, but

again, 2 years ago.

LOL. Of course, I absolutely agree. We can do the yogurt, luckily. I was

just trying to explain to Antoinette the reasoning behind why some

parents DON'T use it. She was pondering the idea of whether the reason

that some kids don't get recovery or the good results they are looking

for from SCD is because parents are scared to try the yogurt.

This is likely the case for several. However there doesn't seem to be

any one intervention for ASD that helps ALL the kids that it is tried

on. I just don't believe that and there isn't a study out there that

shows that. The closest we have is to use the ARI website and read the

parent survey data. I think that is why it is so hard for mainstream

medicine to embrace any of these things, be it SCD, chelation, B12

shots, targeted supplements, etc. We all know that Autism is just a

symptom, and probably most kids have a different mix of insults that

caused these symptoms. For some kids it could be undiagnosed celiac

disease, for others it could be heavy metals, others it could be viral

issues. I think that would explain better the reason why some kids

respond well to certain interventions when others don't. The studies on

secretin are a good example of this issue.

I'm not trying to muck up the waters here. We actually use the yogurt

with no problems. SCD has been good for us and been helpful in clearing

up some residual ASD symptoms for my 6 year old. Unfourtunately, my 3 yo

NT child, who is the primary reason for undertaking this diet due to

" poopy problems " is not moving along as well as I'd hoped. I think he

has worse gut problems than I'd thought and we will try to get him in to

a GI specialist this summer.

I do think its good to keep in perspective though that we are likely to

hear mostly from the parents that are successfully using SCD.

I couldn't agree more! Also, when I lived on a superfund, the incidence of

celiac disease was whopping high, yet not registering on tests. Perhaps there is

a form of celiac sprue that is directly the result of metal damage! From where I

sit, I see a complex conglomeration of factors that affect each individual

child, whether it be the symptoms of autism, leaky gut, cancer, etc. There are

some very observable similarities between all these symptoms and diseases, I

wish there was more concerted research on these topics.

There is no way to accurately predict how the immune system will react across

the board. Having stressed, overworked, depressed malnourished immune systems in

malnourished bodies, each immune system is as individual as the person it is a

part of. Takes very little to set off some immune systems, compared to others.

May be a difference in metal toxicity, as some metals have mutagenic properties.

:)Just musing here,

Summer
