Guest guest
Steph, Could it be the pollen/mold spores in the air? My eyes have been really terrible lately! I take benedril to help. It makes me sleepy so I can only take one every 4-5 hours and 2-3 at night. Check with his CF doc to find out if that is ok for him to take. Or, get him in the CF doc to have him checked out. Good luck with Lian. Aunt B
Guest guest
My son's eyes have been bloodshot on and off for a week. He started cipro and tobi this month, and pulmozyme, albuterol, creon, and adek he started last month. We have called our cf clinic and they told us they don't know what it is and to take him to his pcp... (the same doc that had him doped up on steroids for years treating a fictitious case of asthma). I am certain this is some sort of drug reaction or interaction, but I can't find any record of something similar. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Best wishes, Steph (mom of Iain, 6, wcf)
Guest guest
HI My son has had the same thing on and off. His was attributed to Viral Conjuntivitis. He had some drops but now I can't recall what they were. His eventually went away. His eyes were bloodshot and a bit itchy. It wasn't bacterial because we first treated it that way and it didn't help. Hope this helps. Mom to Josh 9 wcf and 4 nocf but wants to do therapy for his brother. Guest guest
Just what I was thinking. For the first time ever I am having a terrible reaction to something. I can barely open my eyes they are so watery and red. Today it snowed. I am hoping that will clear the air for me. Lenora >Steph, >Could it be the pollen/mold spores in the air? Guest guest
Hi Steph, Does Iain wear use a mouthpiece or a face mask when he does his inhalation treatments? Whenever my son wore a face mask, the med vapors would seep around the mask and turn his eyes pinkish. Even if Iain is using a mouthpiece on his nebulizer cup, maybe his eyes are overly sensitive to the vapored med; though it seems odd that you're just now seeing this reaction if it's really the vapors that irritate his eyes. If his eyes are itchy, puffy and bloodshot that might lead you to think it's an airborne allergy (Visine A.C. eye drops works fast for allergy-itchy eyes!). Is your home warmer and drier than usual lately? Dry air can dry out the eyes and make them bloodshot. Is he sleeping well through the night? My sister is an ophthalmologic surgical scrub tech, and she once told me that the most common cause of bloodshot eyes is lack of deep, fitful sleep. With all these new meds -- and change in routine that having to take meds causes -- and the added stress of the recent CF diagnosis, perhaps Iain isn't sleeping well. If you're concerned about it, then I wouldn't take him to a pcp for the eyes, I'd take him to an ophthalmologist to rule out underlying problems -- even eyestrain can cause bloodshot eyes (has he ever had an eye exam? By age 6, he should). If your insurance won't let you see an ophthalmologist without a referral, then I guess you're back to the pcp -- or ask friends to recommend a good optometrist in your area. A really good optometrist should be able to pick up on health disorders or eye diseases (in some states they can now prescribe meds, or maybe this is now allowed in all states?). Guest guest
Dear Steph,, Someone mentioned that if a mask has been used with a treatment, perhaps. some of the meds might be slipping out at top, etc & hitting directly to the eye. This would cause some discomfort & redness & iching.Just one more persons opinion. Most are same as others have already posted. This was a bit different . I do think it could also be as simple (?) as the conjunivitis as mentioned in post below. Best wishes in getting thru this whatever it is .. Guest guest
My son DJ (nocf) has allergies in the spring, and takes Zyrtec for it. Talk to your doctor to see if he thinks allergies could be the problem. DJ gets red, bloodshot, sometimes itchy eyes, and will sometimes sneeze to no end. BUT, it could also be a med. Cody would often get red eyes when he did TOBI--He uses a mask yet because they want some of the meds to get up into his sinuses (especially the mucomyst, to try to thin out his secretions), and I blamed that on the mist getting up in his eyes. Good luck!!!!!!!! S., mom to Cody (7, pwcf), DJ (8, nocf), and a (14, nocf) bloodshot eyes... please help > My son's eyes have been bloodshot on and off for a week.
