Guest guest
41213 Original Date: Sat Jun 7, 2003 6:54pm Keri, I also wear a duragesic patch, and use Percocet 10/325 once every four hours as needed, for breakthrough pain. It appears that you have built up a tolerance for the Loratabs. I have heard that when someone builds up a tolerance for one particular pain med, they can switch to another with a similar dosage and the new med will work to cover the pain. I've never had to try this, but if this is true, you should talk to your doctor about switching you to another med. Hopefully someone will verify that this is possible. I've been satisfied with the Percocet, but it does only cover me for about four hours, and when I was having serious attacks, I did have to increase the dosage sometimes. The only pain I get now is from my pseudocysts, and the nature of that pain is very different from the pancreatitis pain. I don't know if this has helped any, so I hope someone else can come up with some experienced feedback. With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Guest guest
Demerol and Morphine no longer ease the pain when I go to hospital. Doctors put me on Dilaudid and over time now need 4mg every 4 hours for pain. When I had surgery, I was given amounts that some doctors say is unbelievable and I still felt like I had surgery with no pain killers afterwards. I have actually been pain free for almost 3 weeks and in that time I took myself off everything. I didn't sleep for 5 days, and know that I have a dependency and will need to go through something similar every time I end up back in hospital. I told my husband how bad I felt in myself to be addicted to pain medicine, but as my mother and husband both told me, it is a dependency my body needs at times to get me over the attacks. Guest guest
Kero, Oh, someone else like me! When I had my heart surgery I had to have a double dose of anesthesia (luckily I warned them about this) and I still woke up before someone on a normal dosage. When I go in for pancreatitis, my doctor gives me a pain shot every 2-3 hours the main pain med is 100mg demerol and every other shot is to be fentanyl from now on as I have a problem with the demerol building up in my system and causing muscle spasms. I'm not sure how much is due to my weight, but I'm 190 and I'm 5' 3 1/2' tall. The problem with the anesthesia is something that has built up in me over the years. When I was still having ERCPs done, they had to be very careful and watch me because I had a tendency to wake up in the middle of the procedure (I'm now pretty much phobic about having ERCPs now).
