Guest guest
Hello all, I am scheduled to see my GI specialist in July and I am trying to gather as much data as possible before seeing him. I am going, to see about a total pancreatectomy with auto islet cell transplant. My questions to you are the following. What are the long term expectations following the surgery? I am only 26. I have had pancreatitis since around age 10. It has been chronic the last 5 years. If I had the surgery, at this age, those islets would have to last me a long time. I know there are no good answers as the surgery hasn't been done long enough to know. I would like to know from those of you who have had it done what if any long term expectations were you given? Also what if any long term complications aside from diabetes were mentioned? For the last 4-5 years I have had CP bad enough to prevent me from working. I can not take care of my little girls the way I would like to, and it is a tremendous taxation on my marriage. My house hasn't been tidy for so long I have forgotten what that was like. I am willing to take risks for getting my life to belong to me again, I would just like to make the most informed decision I can. Love and hope, Keri Beck RN Mattoon, IL
