Guest guest
Hello Marcy, I'm sorry you are not well. You can access useful information on hereditary pancreatitis in the Top5+5 section of this site. It is possible to have genetic testing done to see if one has HP (I'm currently having tests). Pittsburgh is a big US centre for research into HP and genetic testing. You can also access their website but I haven't got the address handy. I'll post it later. My understanding is that the tests are good for around 80% of cases of HP but they haven't yet discovered all the possible genetic mutations. They are still working on it. I am not a doctor and have no medical or scientific qualifications. I wouldn't want to mislead anyone but that is my understanding from what I have been told by my specialists and the geneticists I have seen. It's probably worth talking to your doctor about this and having a referral to a pancreatic specialist who will know about HP, the testing etc. It's all too easy to jump to false conclusions, of course, and a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. I know this myself as I keep reading more and more information and it can be confusing or worrying. It's a very complex issue so it's probably best just to try to get to talk to a specialist. I'm glad you're feeling better. Keep well. Fliss
