Hi Becky.

Boiling the nebs shortens the life of the plastic used to make them. Boiling

water and vinegar is an excellent way and also the dishwasher. Just make sure

that they are COMPLETELY dry before using them or you will introduce unwanted

bacteria. If your hose is wet inside I came up with a good drying method. Hook

the hose up to the compressor and turn it on. The air passing through the hose

will dry it. Hope this helps

Neb Cleaning

Hi All-

Can anyone tell me the preferred way to clean nebulizers? We were

doing vinegar/water...then I thought I read that boiling for 10

minutes was the preferred method.

Thanks

Becky,

The CFF came out with new guidelines stating that vinegar is no longer

acceptable. The guidelines also stated that boiling and soaking in a bleach

solution was recommended. You can use a dishwasher if the water is at 170

degrees for 15 minutes (or something like that). I asked about vinegar at

last clinic because the directions with the nebs suggests using it.

However, I was told the study showed that vinegar does not effectively kill

the germs that affect CF patients.

Happy boiling,

I suggest as we do , wash in SOAP 7 water & rinse in Vinegar water ,

then clear water, let air dry on white paper towel. We use the

compressor to dry out the tubing .(not connected to the neb cup :):):)

.......it has kept her infection free for 19 years ..........For our

homecare machines, etc.( we use to have home care business, -we used

CONTROL III It is wonderful!!, we wipes all machines down with that .

(iv pumps, neb compressor, etc)

They also use that in most hospitals. Good luck. Something's should

change-others work well for years...................

(dishwasher is also great !!)

Hi,

we prefer the hot steam of a baby bottle sterilizer. Fast, easy, cheap, no

melting of the equipment, no chemicals and it saves you from the drying part

when you do it immediately before the treatment.

Peace

I use Control III disinfectant. I have found it at a Medical Supply

business. It is a concentrate. I use one capful in a tupperware container

filled with water. The solution will last for 2 weeks. I soak the nebs for

a minimum of half an hour or overnight, then rinse with water and air dry.

Maybe boiling shortens the life but the clinic wants us to change our

nebs (we use 2 so we cant boil them once a day only) every 6

months... and I do the tube trick too to prevent the tube from

moistures. You can use demineralised water, if not you will probably

want to soak your neb in water and vinegar once in a wile to remove

the minerals that can stick to the neb and causes malfonction.

-Bev,

Where do you get the Control III to clean the machines? Wyatt's

machines always get so dirty. :) THanks, Christy
