Hi Everyone!

My name is Stormy and I was at the July 11th clinic with my ten year old

son. My son, by the way, REALLY enjoyed the clinic. He said that Dr. R

should consider a side career as a stand up comedian! Dr. R does have a

wonderful sense of humor, doesn't he? I have been trying to catch up on all

of the posts today. I took my lap top, but had trouble finding a local

access number in Durham, so I have several days worth of posts to catch up

on. I really enjoyed meeting all of you, or at least all of you that I had

the opportunity to meet. My son was ready to get back to the hotel and swim

after the comedy show was over. I do want to say that I have not been

swayed about my decision to follow through with the MGB. I have read all of

the posts from all of you, including Mr. Walter L. and still know that the

MGB is the right choice for me. When the " loop " controversy first came up

a week or so ago, I did an internet search on the original procedure and

found that it is still widely used today as a surgery to help those with

cancer and/or ulcers. I also found that although the original loop surgery

had a few(very few)side effects, it is considered to be a safe procedure. I

then compared the original surgery, which I found drawings of on other

websites, with Dr. R's modified version called the MGB. I'm no medical

expert, but it looks to me like Dr. R has slightly modified the surgery so

that the acid reflux is not such a problem as it is with the original

surgery. Anyway, this debate will not be over until at least ten years of

MGB's have been performed and followed up. If this procedure was really

that dangerous, Dr. R would not be allowed to perform it on anyone without

strict supervision by the appropriate boards. I have a family member with

cancer. She has been in several experimental studies, and they are all very

tightly regulated. Anyway, I feel that the best way for us to help Dr. R in

his battle with the non-believers is for us to keep good records on our

health and weight-loss(or gains)after our surgeries. I know that some of

ya'll are already doing that, but I also understand that once the burden of

excess weight and co-morbids leave us, it is all to easy to just put the WLS

behind us and go on with our lives. I suspect that this is what has

happened with many of the earlier MGB patients. A good record of

pre-surgery physician documented health problems, as well as complete

measurements and weights post-op are going to be so important down the line.

Let's all keep a file of our measurements and health problems, as well as

documentation of reductions of medication and such as we lose weight. It is

such a small burden to hold when you look at the gift of life that Dr. R is

providing us with. I know that I want to help in any way that I can, and

the one thing that I do know about science is that written evidence is

everything. Best wishes to those of you having surgery tomorrow. I will

start again on my insurance battles with Blue Cross of Alabama in the

morning. Mr. Walter L, I really hope that you will change your mind about

representing Dr. R's patients. I value your expertise as a lawyer, and I

REALLY need a good lawyer to help me with my insurance battle. I read each

and every post EVERY day, and will continue to do so even though I rarely

post. My thoughts are with you all.

Good luck Stormy. Robin and I enjoyed meeting you and your son while waiting

to see Dr. R after clinic. I sent BCBS of MN everything they could possible

want, and probably several things they didn't want... I am heavier than you,

and have been most of my life. The nurse did stress that it was only

approved because they deem it to be medically necessary. I had my PCP write

a letter to them stating that. I will cross my fingers for you!
