Hi, Dinah:

I have an appointment with an allergist today, as a matter of fact, thanks to

my sweet husband! I went ahead and set up a new surgery date with Dr. R.'s

office - August 9, and I'll submit the allergist's report to Dr. R. in the

meantime.

It's my understanding that the surgery can be done regardless of the latex

allergy, but a special latex-free operating room has to be set up. Durham

Regional and Dr. R. have to have advance notice in order to be able to do the

surgery this way.

I'm hoping I'm NOT allergic to latex, because it's such a big hassle, but I

suspect that I might be, given how I react when it's used on my skin - latex

sponges and such. I just wouldn't have characterized it as an allergy - more

of a sensitivity - but I guess any time is a good time to get educated. Even

two minutes prior to weight loss surgery!

Thanks for asking - I'll keep you posted on what I find out.

Blair
