Guest guest
Anyone whose life is affected by food, We were talking about a cookbook a few weeks ago. I received a couple of recipes from some members. I have put together a Nutritional Manual and Cookbook for Pancreatitis for a preliminary printing, too. There is still time to submit your favorite recipes. There is also a need for people to submit material talking about general nutritional considerations, and not just recipes. For example, if anyone wants to share your thoughts or feelings about handling nausea, tips on grocery shopping or cooking. Someone might share about the importance of avoiding alcohol and how to make sure it isn't in the foods you eat. You might want to explain to the reader that no matter what they are told or feel one day, the next day will be different, so they shouldn't feel alone. Here is another one...how do resume life when the world seems to revolve around food and alcohol. I say alcohol, because, a lot of people share how hard that is. Poncho might want to submit his personal philosophy on consuming adequate water. Heidi's could share her helpful hints. Don't forget the important things caregivers have to share, (God love 'em) . They can share how to survive living with us. They can share how they go on living, even though we can't do those things, like, going to dinner, having dinner parties, etc. And, more. Basically, it has turned out to be a manual I hope dietitians will give their patients in the hospital when they are diagnosed. It can be something they can read while they are still on hyperal, TPN, or tube feedings. You could share what it is like to be NPO. Then they can use it as they begin to acclimate their diet to the disease. Do you remember what it was like the first time you ate after being NPO? You can send your writings directly to me, but I suggest you submit the things you write to the board, it may give others ideas to write about. Don't forget to get the kids involved. How do they deal with the school lunches, birthday parties, etc.? Besides being a great resource to anyone whose lives have been affected by Pancreatitis, it will be a fun experience to be part of, and will make you feel special and that you found purpose in your pain when you hold the book and see your name in print. Don't forget that we can have colored photos. There is still time. Don't worry about grammar, spelling, etc., we'll send it through spell checker. It doesn't need to be fancy, it needs to be practical. Earlier, I mentioned including a photo of your cooked recipe, but if you don't have that, include it in the second edition. I also said to include the nutritional composition, i.e., carbs/fats/proteins /calories, but if you don't have that, send it anyway. Don't forget to include special remedies that you use to get rid of mild ailments, herbs, vitamins, organic vs inorganic, proper pH of food vs don't worry about the pH. Things your Grandma told you. Things your baby taught you. With Joy and Light, Karyn E. , RN Exec. Director, PAI Indianapolis, IN The PAI serves as a means of support, information, and advocacy.
