Guest guest
Hi group, everyone is talking about wellbutrin and it possibly being a vasodilator.... isn't aspirin a vasodilator and isn't that part of the anti-blushing routine?? Thanks for any answers, Elena
Guest guest
I'm on shaking ground discussing the pharmacology of aspirin. Aside from preventing platelets from clotting together (which is how it favorably impacts on heart attacks and strokes) aspirin is primarily an anti-inflammatory agent. It impacts on the prostaglandin system, one of its effects is to prevent histamine release in inflammatory conditions. But I believe that aspirin can also directly release histamine in some people and so potentially exacerbate flushing. I don't think this is just limited to those allergic to aspirin, but I don't know. In general, my understanding is that, like NSAIDs, a rosacean's reaction to aspirin is individualized -- helps some people's rosacea, makes others worse, and for the rest has no impact. I'd very much appreciate hearing from anyone who understands these aspirin and NSAID mechanism better than I do (not a great achievement <g>).
