Guest guest
Leah, Have you been to the website: www.pecanbread.com ? Once there, click on " Food Preparation " .... there is a whole section on intro for ASD kids. MANY more ideas there, too... and recipes. There is also an entire section on the site about yogurt and all the ins and outs.... when to start and how. Yes, it's a bit different for ASD kids than in the book. Patti, mom to Katera Intro diet for 3 yr. old ASD Hello there. I'm gearing up to start the diet and am trying to get a feel for what our meals might look like the first week. Can anyone give me guidance on whether or not to use yogurt on the 1st days of the diet? BTVC recommends it with the dry curd cottage cheese, but using dairy with ASD seems to be a concern. I have no idea if he has a sensitivity to dairy as this is our first dietary intervention. If we do delay yogurt...what in the world do we eat the 1st 3+ days? I am the furthest thing from a cook...we are junk food junkies...I know that this is the best thing that we can do and am willing to go the whole enchilada (without the enchiladas - ha) but I'm nervous about my ability to pull it off. Words of encouragement would be great, but help getting through the first week would be even better. Thanks! Leah

Guest guest
Personally, I feel the most important thing to remind yourself constantly of is this... Take it easy, don't rush into nut products, wait on the yogurt; I believe the protocol is 4-6 months into SCD before introducing yogurt, someone else might have a better figure on that one. Cooked fruits are fairly easy, homemade ketchup w/ beef and eggs shaped into meatballs or burgers, crockpot chicken w/ mild seasonings, carrots, celery, and onions, but only give child the chicken and broth (there's a protocol for the chicken in BTVC and online at the Pecanbread site), scrambled eggs (no milk, just salt, pepper, and mix the eggs w/ a whisk), and a nice PB Banana muffin, but I usually substitute the Banana w/ fresh squash (baked, mashed, pureed, and measure into about a cup instead of the 2 bananas)... I'd be leary of enzymes until you pass through your first few die-off phases... We started enzymes at about 3 months into SCD, I believe? We had previously been detoxing w/ GFCF(SF) off and on, Nurse's Herbal Tea, Supplements, and Mangosteen... The Epsom Salt soaks/baths are great... 3 times per week... There's a website on epsom salt that talks about making it into a lotion as well, which you can implement into your sensory diet (if you have one w/ a local OT)... We usually just use the soaks in the tub . .... Rambling, but trying to be helpful... The website definitely has about the same information . -Carol / Froggypeach Mother of 4 children, ages 14, 5-1/2, 4, and 2 years old; 4-year old son dx regressive autism 10/2004, scd 10/2005; 5-1/2 year old daughter dx benign childhood epilepsy 1/2003, recovering/healing w/ rx therapy and time.
