Guest guest
Do they eat meat? That would be the easiest source of protein. SCD is actually quite easy to get protein in if they will eat meat. What about eggs? For my boys I have the opposite problem, they will eat plenty of protein throughout the day and I am trying to sneak in veggies. Today I made mini hamburger patties with pureed avacados, and they ate it! Have you seen Jody's recipe for chicken pancakes on pecanbread.com? My boys wouldn't eat them (said they tasted like chicken), but I thought they looked and tasted great, they would be good for a sandwich I bet and lots of protein in a sneaky way. Guest guest
Is it possible the protein powder is filling them up so that is why they eat so little? Are you giving it to them to gain weight? My son has been around the 10th percentile - 34 lbs -forever it seemed on GFCFSFCrnF etc! He has gained 3 lbs on SCD so far (1 month). Can you eat eggs or meat to get protein? My son loves the banana pancakes at pecanbread.com. You can vary them by using butternut squash/pumpkin or a friend uses avocado- I'm sure there's other variations I haven't learned yet. He also really loves the pumpkin pie (or butternut squash) filling recipe in the files section under pumpkin recipes. It's dairy and nut free but has lots of eggs- I put a little less honey than called for and he eats it for a side dish or a snack. The chicken pancakes are really good if you go light on the chicken. There are some SCD legal Applegate Farms meat products like the turkey bologna and certain hot dogs from what I've read on this list. A lot of the recipes are heavy in eggs. I was a little worried about too much protein for my son at first looking at the recipes since the allergic people in my family seem to run protein in their urine for some unknown reason. But, it all seems to be balancing out and he is finally getting well nourished!
