Guest guest
Dear PAI, I have been on and off TPN for the last three years. However, my time spent " on " has definitely been less than my healthier " off times. " I have heard that TPN can wear down the liver over a period of years. But all of my times on TPN probably altogether only equal one year. I am on TPN currently and (at my longest stretch)have been since February 2003. My TPN Nurse said my liver has always shown to be weak, but I never remember them saying that in the past. I am an informed patient and always ask about my blood tests. Well, the crucial matter of this post is that my Liver enzymes are (as of the 9th)higher than ever before. I believe my nurse described the numbers as " astronomical " . I am jaundiced with yellowing of the eyes and skin with a little itchiness. Have you had this happen to your liver being on TPN? Have you had jaundice? How did your doctor and dieticians help you? Please respond, I am worried that if my liver gives out, then I won't be able to get my TPN. I have a bowel obstruction and TPN at this point is my only way to live. Please Help. Worried, Amy in CA
