hi there folks

Just found this group and although i have not participated in any

discussions, I have read all messages sent to me with great interest.

I was diagnosed with Acute Pancreatitis on 21Feb2003. The pain That I

had will never be forgotten. I was told that my amalayse level was

3000 and that after all the tests was informed that it must be

alcohol that was causing the problem. I was totally shocked as I was

never a heavy drinker only at weekends but was told to give up by my

consultant which contradicted what I have been told by my own doctor.

the consultant told me that I did not have to modify my diet. my

doctor said that I should. With all this conflicted advice I decided

to cut out alcohol but not my diet. From time to time i suffer from

diarrhea after meals is this common with acute pancreatitis. I have

had no further attacks since Feb2003 and hope that I never will. hope

this finds everyone pain free.

Hugh,

actually, you really should modify your diet. That should cut down on

the diarrhea. Too much fat in the diet tends to give people with

pancreatitis diarrhea. Most of us stick to about 20-25 grams of fat a

day, no more. And of course, avoid alcohol at all costs. Hopefully,

doing both of these will keep you from having any more attacks of

pancreatitis. If you continue to get the diarrhea after you change your

diet, you may have to go on pancreas enzymes.

Hope you have no more cases of pancreatitis.

I have had several attacks of acute pancreatitis and I get diarrhea and very

bad gas pains, if I skip a meal or even go long between meals. It does not

usually last long, but the pain is pretty bad and then the diarrhea. I do

not know if you are making sure you eat at least three small meals a day,

but that is what I have to do. I can not fast , with out pain.
