Guest guest
Sharon, Can you call the 800 number from where you are? You mention his weight in kg, so I am assuming that you aren't in the US. Devin is very helpful and I am sure that he could help you with how much to use. Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/
Guest guest
Enzymes are dosed by the person's sensitivities and amount of food, not age or weight...so halving the dose for a child doesn't apply with enzymes. If you are just starting with enzymes, give about 1/4 to 1/2 capsule before eating. Increase the dose over the next couple days as it is tolerated. Generally, one can mix with food or drink and have the person consume the enzymes at the beginning of the meal. Any food or drink is fine for mixing. I am not familiar with g-tube application, so if that is what you are using, you can contact the company about that...which would be wise considering that is a special medical situation...and your doctor just to make sure. . Guest guest
I agree with contacting Dr Houston, he is very helpful. Also, remember that enzymes don't really dissolve, so it is a thick precipitate and can clog the tube. Before starting, I would call the company or email him and ask about optimal media for mixing via g tube and review the amounts for him. my daughter is about 10kg and we had to start very very slow with her. I bought graduated measuring spoons and starting giving 1/2 a drop (1/128 of a teaspoon) with every meal and with breastmilk and then added according to tolerance. everybody varies with respect to response, so you should start very slow, keep a journal and note any changes so that you can make an informed decison at the time of cutting back or adding with respect to amount, intervals, and additions. good luck maria mom to fiol 15mo. asd > > Enzymes are dosed by the person's sensitivities and amount of food, not > age or weight...so halving the dose for a child doesn't apply with > enzymes. Guest guest
For our tube fed kiddo, we mix his enzymes with his food or formula and let it work about 10 minutes then tube feed it. They don't have to taste the pre-digested taste. We aren't using Houston's yet, so that they may feel differently. Colby
