Guest guest
RE: ERCP & Stent Placement & .. I also have SOD & pancreatitis. I have had several ERCP's and 1 stent placement performed during the 7th ERCP. I too experienced attacks following each of the ERCP's, and my body completely rejected the stent placement. I wound up back in the hospital, then had to have the stent removed a few days later.... and have been in pain ever since. My philosophy is that the repeated ERCP's ( & sphincterotomies) with acute pancreatitis attacks following each & then the stent placement all being performed within a relatively short period of time is either directly or indirectly related to my pancreatitis turning chronic. I DID experience relief after the acute attacks.... until I had the stent placement. The important thing to remember here is that every person's illness is different, as well as the contributing factors. It could be that my body is just more sensitive to the stents, where this would be an excellent option for someone else. We all have different causes of the pancreatitis as well. My view of the cause of my chronic pancreatitis is shared with other health care providers, though no one will " sign their name to it. " That doesn't matter... I was the one that wanted to aggressively treat whatever was causing my pain & problems in the first place. I knew what the risks were (that ERCP's frequently cause the acute attacks), I just thought that it wouldn't happen to me. I really didn't think the acute attacks would turn into chronic. (It was advantageous to me to suffer thru the acute attacks to obtain some type of relief for a period of time so that I could carry out my responsibilities at work). Now I'm unable to work and miss it terribly. I'm just glad that I had recently gone thru some personal soul-searching & didn't have my identity tied to my " career " . I do, however, miss the consistent interaction with others, staying busy, and personal accomplishments. Now I have to seek the satisfaction of accomplishing something thru actions that don't neccessarily demonstrate results.... at least not immediate results, i.e. focusing on being there for my children, nurturing them, etc. I DO know that my relationship with them is my priority & I DO see some of the results of being closer, higher self-esteem, better grades, better involvement, etc. I guess some results are not meant to be " measured " . This is just my food for thought. Good luck with your decision! Armantrout Indiana >
