Guest guest
Hi everyone. I haven't been to this list in a very long time, but a couple of years ago I was somewhat regular. I have a question and knew that this was the first place to go... :-) My youngest son, (5 w/cf), gets a lot of sinus infections and is in the midst of one now. In looking up his nose last night (no, I don't do that a lot), I saw a huge hole in his septum (the membranes/cartilage that separates your nostrils). I'd never imagined such a thing and promptly looked in every nose in our house! No-one else has a hole! So, I called our dr.'s office 24- hour nurses 'help-line'. The nurse I spoke with had not heard of this and suggested we call the doctor on Monday. Now, is seen quarterly at CF clinic, regularly at the ped's - including his 5- year physical in December and CF clinic in January. I can't imagine that this huge hole appeared in the past 2 - 3 weeks, but no-one has ever mentioned it to us before. I did a search on the web and learned that it's called 'perforated septum', but all the causes I can find for it don't seem to fit with 's history. What I'm really freaking out about is that all the references I found related to people with a pin-size to a nostril- size hole. 's is much larger than this - probably 2 - 3 times his nostril size. If too much of the septum dies, making the hole larger, his nose can collapse! I'm very anxious about this and am wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with this? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!!! Angi Mom of (8), (6.5 w/cf) and (5 wcf)
