Guest guest
Hi, On 5-15 I had a total pancreatectomy with islet cell autotransplant performed at Univesity Hospital, Cincinnati, Oh. I got discharged today. The surgical, pain medicine, and critical care teams, and the whole staff was just awesome! It far blew away my notions of state of the art care combined with the hearts and souls of the skilled, dedicated workers. I was impressed at the level of care and committment each unit gave. I have fared well: I haven't been on tube feedings for days now, and I have a lot of mobility considering. I am on pain medicine, and will be for a while yet but will be weened off of it over time. My islet cells are functioning well and I am only requiring a small regimen of insulin (combination of twice daily NPH shots, and normal insulin sliding scale as needed). Time will tell if things improve and I get off of insulin or not, but at least I am not brittle. There is hope I will be insulin free in time. Just wanted to drop a quick note out. If anyone has any questions I'd be more than happy to answer them. Health and happiness, Bert
