Guest guest
Hi everyone, today I am 7 days post op and I want to tell you about my surgery. I had my surgery at 8:30 a.m. July 12th - last Wednesday - I woke up in the recovery room at 9:30 a.m. and they took me to my room at 11:00. At 12:30 I got up and went to the bathroom (with some help) and then got up every 2 hours and took a short walk and went to the bathroom. I feel this helped me get back on track fast. I had no major pain, - just a gas bubble under my left rib that went away by Friday. My throat was very dry and I asked for ice chips and the sponge on a stick and I started wetting my mouth and drinking small amounts of water. Doing that immediately moistened my throat and mouth. They did not hurt after that. I would say I was uncomfortable about 3 hours after surgery and then I was pretty doped up but not in any pain. I slept good in between my little walks. That was the first day. I also would not use my stomach muscles to get up but my husband and the nurses aided me the first day. The second day I could get up by myself and didnt have any help. I was discharged from the hospital around 10:30 a.m. and immediately went to Walmart for meds - which they wouldnt fill - then we went to a grocery store for yogurt and sugar free jello - yes, I walked all around the store - no problem. But I then went back to our room for a 2 hour nap. But then I took a shower and just camped out in the room .. I was feeling good but was more comfortable reclining than laying in bed so Friday a.m. we drove back to Michigan. Sat. my stomach was a little sore from being juggled around but that was gone Sunday. The first time I got up to walk in the hospital - I had some bleeding from 1 of my incisions and the 2nd time I got up I had some more bleeding - this is normal but no one had talked about it on the post so I was a little upset until I was told that is what happens. I also had a slight fever the first and second night (around 100) but was told that was ok too. I havent' had a fever since. Today I am 7 days post op and just came from my physician who took my staples out. He said they look good. Here are the changes I've noticed in the last 7 days. I've noticed my sugar doesnt flucuate and I havent' noticed it going up or down. I no longer have blurred vision I have had no reflux since my MGB No more arthritis pain in my middle fingers No more night sweats Last night was the first night in years I hadn't gotten up to go to the bathroom. I slept through the whole night! I'm not as thirsty as I used to be - but I sure enjoy crushed ice. I'm not as hungry either. I have always said that food was poison to me - I think we are severly allergic to food. I can feel a lifting of my mood - I always felt kinda depressed before. I don't feel weighed down. Like I was too heavy to move. Does all this sound nuts for someone who is only 7 days out? I knew food was killing me and I had to have this surgery to live. I just am shocked I feel so good so fast! I can hardly believe I had major surgery 7 days ago. What do you all think of that? Barb in Michigan
