Working Versus Staying At Home

Here's my situation. I am a mother of a 3 year old with CF. My

husband and I both work outside the home. I currently take my

daughter to an in home sitter, who is also my best friends mother.

The level of attention and care that she receives there is

outstanding, however there are many other children there as well,

which leads to many flu bugs and germs. It seems that there is

always someone at the sitter with a running nose or cough. It may

not be a big deal for that particular child, but when my daughter

catches it, it usually turns into a fairly serious sickness, causing

several doctor's appointment as well as several missing work days for

me. This happens about 1 a month during the cold and flu season. I

missed 4 days last week because she had pneumonia. It seems

unrealistic for me to expect the other parents to keep their children

at home because of any little sneeze or cough. It is a financial

neccesity for me to work, staying home is just not an option right

now. I have recruited my mother, who is now watching Peyton two days

a week, which does help out. And I know the cold and flu season

should be about over, knock on wood. I am curious how other parents

handle this. I know that I am not able to protect her from every

little germ and bug, and in 2 years she will be starting school and

that will make matters worse.

Thanks for letting me fret.
