Guest guest
That is amazing that your surgeon can remove just the pancreas itself. I know it is possible, but generally speaking surgeons here in the US seem to shy away from that because of the risk of bleeding out post-operatively. With me my spleen was also removed, and they did a Roux-en-Y so a small portion of my stomach was removed. They do this to pick up a loop for the liver and reconnect it near where it used to connect naturally. The spleen is removed so that the major blood vessels can be more safely cut. Post-operative, I had one -Pratt drain on my right side to drain blood, and a G- tube to assist the stomach in draining as a result of the gastric bypass, and a J-tube in order to feed me. I was off tube feeds in 3 days and able to tolerate solid food. Both the G and J tubes were removed at 6 weeks and 8 weeks during office visits. I was told by my surgeon that most total pancs. are out of the hospital between 10 and 14 days. I was out in 9, but I guess I always try to push things. I underwent the surgery to good results so I think it is a life- altering positive surgery despite its risks. I just always try to err on the side of caution when I speak of my experiences because I don't want to mislead anyhow considering it. It is a big risky operation. I was on the table about 12 and half hours. blessings, Bert
Guest guest
Bert, are you having any complications from the spleen removal? Any problems with infections? Thanks, Jerry/NC ******************************************* Felicity: was Re: Thank you to Bert
