Guest guest
Yes my son had severe reflux and was on Zantac for a year. It barely helped. SCD made the reflux completely disappear. -Kim Mom to Noah 2 1/2 yrs old, ASD, SCD since Feb2005
Guest guest
My son had " silent " reflux from birth. Eliminating all allergens helped immensely, and when we finally found a pediatrician who woulod agree with our diagnosis and prescribe Zantac at 10 months, he got somewhat better. By 12 months he had regressed into autism, and we were too consumed with finding therapy and starting biomed to question it. For a long time he was consuming it in a GFCF corn syrup base before we figured out his corn allergy. Once, when we had to stop it for 3 days for allergy testing, his autism got much better, though so did his reflux. We then slowed down to half a dose once a day rather than a full dose twice a day. It helped his reflux enough that we felt we had to keep him on that small dose. 9 months later we stopped giving it entirely for another round of allergy testing, and his reflux seemed mostly in remission. When he did have occasional bouts of nightwaking with tummy gurrgling and reflux burps, I would nurse him (breastmilk is a great antacid). That worked until we started the SCD, and now his reflux seems to be worse. So far we are just toughing it out with occasional nursing and occasional Zantac and hope it will get better as hte diet progresses. He's doing well overall, and we do not want him back on daily Zantac, we start to lose him when we do that. Certainly you don't want your child to suffer with reflux. But you also want him to be able to digest his food. Proton pump inhibitors suppress stomach acid production (which you need to digest your food), and has been associated with an increase in c. Dificil cases in hospitals. It's a tough call. Suzanne Tom 3.4, ASD, both SCD 60 days > > > > > Yes my son had severe reflux and was on Zantac for a year.
