Guest guest
Before you read this please understand that " celiac " disease meant all malabsorption syndromes back then. Even Cystic Fibrosis back then was considered a type of celiac disease. Yes he cured cystic fibrosis. wow! Many of these kids displayed what would in today's terms be considered on the autism spectrum also. Even though they do not use these words, they describe the ASD child perfectly. It is so SAD that so many of children eating other ways are doomed to the fate of repeating the history of using ways of eating that due not cure…..in the case of our LUCKY SCD children we are no doubt repeating the history of success! Here are some direct quotes from his book ( " Management of Celiac Disease " ), that Elaine also references out in her BTVC book: " In 1924 S.V. Haas reported that in cases in which the diet can be controlled for a sufficient length of time, recovery ensues in every instance and without nutritional relapse. This was the first report of the banana diet and the first really favorable prognosis " pg 111 The " banana diet " is now called the specific carbohydrate diet. Before this other ways of eating such as taking out vegetables and fruits, fats and proteins failed miserably. It was only this specific carbohydrate diet that was saving lives, not stunting the growth permanently and having NO ill health consequences. The CHILD WAS CURED. This was the first time that this had ever happen. Prior, there where many deaths, and many children that where permanently disabled, if they did survive. With other ways of eating other than the SCD way, this is a quote: " Heubner says that the disease may continue for years with periods of improvement alternating with periods of deterioration. Growth and height are retarded for months or even years and in large numbers of cases remain below normal for life….. A fatal outcome is not infrequent. " Pg 111 Again, this was referring to any diet other than the specific carbohydrate diet. Back then they where trying anything! The children eating Dr. Haas's way where very lucky in deed! " In 1933 Courtin reported 34 cases. Significantly, he pointed out that the fatalities in his series took place before he used the fruit and vegetable diet. " This man actually experimented with taking fruit and vegetables out…will dire results for some kids. If they did not die they had permanent disableity and thier growth was stunted for life. Then Courtin goes to admit: " He stated that with the fruit-and vegetable diet the prognosis for the disease is excellent, both from the point of view of mortality and of the ultimate attainment of perfectly normal development. " Pg 113 " In 1938 Haas published another paper, this time citing 134 consecutive cases of celiac disease. Of these, 3 died of disease completely unrelated to celiac disease. All of the rest recovered completely and were alive and well, some of them 15 years after their initial presentation. In the same year Fanconi also reported very favorable prognosis under treatment with his fruit and vegetable diet (which was similar to SCD). In 1950 S.V. and M.P. Haas, reporting on 603 cases, all of them treated with the carbohydrate specific diet (SCD), pointed out that practically all cases recover completely and that there should be no deaths " Pg. 113 " In recent years, some of the most prominent investigators have continued to issue most pessimistic reports on the ultimate prognosis of celiac disease " Pg. 113 This come from the sad fact taht SCDie this not always used. It is the child that suffers this sad fate. The book continues to say that with the SCDiet: " Most cases begin to improve immediately. The earliest sting of improvement is a change in the child's disposition; he become happy, smiling, contented. The diarrhea is often controlled in the first week, but in some cases, such control may take a month or several months more. IF he suffered from anorexia, the child's appetite improves, and he begins to grow and gain weight. " ………. " Duration of the treatment is of outmost importance. The strict celiac diet (specific carbohydrate diet) must be continued for at least one year. If there has been no recurrence of symptoms, forbidden carbohydrates may be added;…… " Pg 132 Elaine suggested a strict SCDiet one year after the symptoms leave, and thenone can started adding illegal slowly one at a time, but suggesting never to completely go back to the SAD (standard American diet). It just isn't that healthy for anybody. My question is: What kind of insanity thinks that we need to repeat history in experimenting with other ways of eating when this has 50 years of working. I realize that a minority of kids have special needs, in which alternatives ways may be needed, but on the most part the SCDiet is the " cure " for the majority of us suffering from malabsorption and the vicious cycle. God help those eating the Gluten freed diet it is disastrous in deed. We personally learned the hard way. I pray my children do not have permanent disabilty, thanks to this experiment that lasted 1 and a half years! It may have initially gave relief but illness and rebound occured just like Dr. Haas said it would. KIKI and me became so much sicker! NOW SHE IS AUTISTIC! If I had known this was teh " cure " ...she would have never had to get so sick. But today we move forward with HOPE! She is getting well now. If there is permanent problems with her brain, we will teach her how to deal with them with a SMILE! Thank God she can now smile! From years of being misdiangoses I too have permanent problems, but have obviously learned how to accomidate them to be a part of " main stream " society. I wish I had known this history sooner, when I was questioning the BTVC book. Why can't we all learn by history and stop questioning the thousands that have been healed with Elaine's success too? This is not to those who are already convinced, but to help the one who is still questioning the SCDiet. Guest guest
Antoinette, Thanks for the excerpt!... Dr. Haas' writings are still timely... and Elaine's 'modifications' are helpful... you're going to love Dr. -McBride's 'modificatons',... the things she has to say about cheese, chelation, etc....sort of sounds like you. Guest guest
Dear Braindi, I hope others have read it too, who have doubt and are experimenting with other ways that have already historicaly proven not to work all that well. It is neat seing the miracle of the natural and gentle way that the SCDiet detoxes the body, and in a way naturly chelates. Making the liver and kidneys function again the way that God meant our bodies to function, before this vicious cycle kicked in. So that they can finnaly excrete those horrible metals and junk on their own...like a " normal " person can! No chelation therapy needed yet....knock on wood...never with this SCDiet. Today KiKi grows again. We just had to buy the next size in clothes! YEAH!!!! I can't wait for my book! Sincerely, Antoinette (2+ months...and healing my family the SCD way..the way that has worked for over 50 years....if possible we will stick to just this...it worked before thousands of times maybe it will work again.) > Before you read this please understand that " celiac " disease meant > all malabsorption syndromes back then.
