Guest guest
I was wondering how people who have children with severe eating issues have dealt with childcare. My husband is going to be laid off the first week of June and I am currently a stay-at-home mom. I have found a job and we are hoping they offer me a decent salary. The issue is if my husband gets offered a better job, would I then quit to be a stay-at-home mom again and screw over the company that is helping us out by giving me a job when we are desperate (I worked their previously and they know I will do a good job) or would I be able to stay at the company part-time (I know they would have no problems with this since we already discussed it) and obtain day-care for the girls. Emma is almost three and has been doing really well with her lungs but she is still basically spoon fed (I give her a plate with the spoon on it and she picks it up). I can't imagine any daycare that would have time to deal with this. My sister-in-law has offered to watch them but she is Chinese and I just find it really hard to convey the medical issues with CF to her. I don't think she gets the concept behind the use of the enzymes at all so I don't really consider that a viable option. Anyway, I was just curious how others dealt with daycare when your child has had reflux or severe eating problems. Thanks, - mom to Emma 2 1/2 years old w/CF (double delta F508, doing well weight and lung wise) and acid reflux and Isabelle 4 1/2 years old wo/CF ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Guest guest
I would approach it from a disability stand point. Can they care for disabled kids? If so then they should be able to care for Emma and her eating problems. I would really stress the disability part so some poor teacher won't be frustrated the first time they try to feed her lunch. You may need to drop by a couple of days early at a feeding time and teach two or three how to feed Emma. More than one needs to know how in case her regular teacher is sick and they have a substitute. Find out when they will be feeding her lunch and let them know you will be spontaneously dropping by to see if they are following your instructions. Then do it. I wish you the best of luck on the job thing. We have with out work in the past couple of years. Thankfully, I haven't had to work though. Of course with four kids, the day care would be astronomical, not to mention the fact that I homeschool my oldest three.
