Guest guest
Anita, I have had one surgery that was not endoscopic. I don't know if it's a surgical sphincterotomy or a surgical sphincteroplasty (it was one of the two), but they tried to correct the pancreas divisum to prevent the CP from becoming chronic. They unblocked the duct that was blocked since birth and then widened both ducts. My ducts are too small and too close together, so when the blocked duct would swell, it would cut off the opened duct. Unfortunately, I was already chronic and didn't know it and so the surgery only worked for about 4 to 5 years and then I started having pancreatic attacks again and I was finally diagnosed as having chronic pancreatitis. I completely understand your worry. I went through that too. I am also diabetic due to the CP. Also, my mother's first cousin's daughter also has CP and pancreas divisum, though she is not as bad off as me. She was recently diagnosed as diabetic and she's only had 3 attacks. I've had over 20 attacks in 17 years. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Note: All advice given is personal opinion, not equal to that of a licensed physician or health care professional.
