Guest guest
Dear Jeni and to all who can guide us, The week we started SCD we made an appointment with DAN/ Kucera M.D. (he was recommended by serve). He was so busy won't be seeing him until April 24 and 25...took three appointments for all of us with the worse ASD like problems! Thank God he is covered by our insurance and many say he is a good one! Do you suggest we just keep on doing what we are doing until then. Supplementing with SCD safe enzymes and supplements....and doing a little goat yogurt...seems to be helping......as long as we stay away from high phenol/salicylate foods such as almond flours and over try not to over do it with the fruit...(but find us eating more than if raw) when we turn it into sauce! KiKI (22 month old Celiac, with most distinct ASD problems) has to still eat all her fruits and veg cooked....can't tolerate any nuts....or much of anything.... .....very intro like diet.....very restricted....everytime we stray diarrhea come back! She is tolerating a little goat yogurt...no signs of problems that we can identify. Do you guys do SCD goat yogurt? or Goat cheese.....we are ALL so limited on what we can eat thanks to sensitivity and allergy that this would be nice if it is revealed safe to do it! Thank you for your reply, Antoinette (entire family day 41 family probs: Celiac, DH, ADD,ADHD,ASD and more) Chelation Questions? Did research on heavy metals. Very disturbing in light of problems family has had,and are continueing to have. Although will not deny doing better than ever before thanks to only SCDIET/enzymes/supplements Does the SCDiet cause Chelation of heavy metals? Should we wait to see DAN doctor? Do you have to take SCD safe dairy out of the SCDiet to achieve this? I read somewhere that sugar, dairy and grain have to be taken out of diet...SCDIET dose this (but would have to stop the yogurt)...is this true? Antoinette and husband want to know. (day 39/Celiac...trying to help family and KiKi/22 month old, and are ASD symptoms) For information on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, please read the book _Breaking the Vicious Cycle_ by Elaine Gottschall and read the following websites: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info<http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/\ ><http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/<http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.in\ fo/>> and http://www.pecanbread.com<http://www.pecanbread.com/><http://www.pecanbread.com/\ <http://www.pecanbread.com/>>
Guest guest
Dear Antionette, I do suggest continuing what you are already doing while you are waiting for your DAN appointment. You certainly are on the right track, and your DAN will probably be impressed that you are a little " ahead of the game. " Taking enzymes and appropriate supplements and doing a restricted diet (SCD in your case) are things that he would most likely have told you to do at your appointment. But since you are already doing these things, he may be able to get you started on whatever comes next since the dietary changes are already well underway. If you guys are tolerating the goat yogurt, then I would keep doing it until the DAN tells you otherwise. He most likely will want to do some urine tests to see if Kiki is excreting excessive amounts of casomorphine. If she is, he may pull the plug on the yogurt until her gut has healed some more. But for now, I would continue with the goat yogurt. We don't do the yogurt in our family because our tests did show my kids excreting large amounts of casomorphine. But we have been told that after the kids heal (which may take a long time for us), we should be able to tolerate something like goat yogurt. For now, we will be using SCD legal probiotics. I just wanted to say that you are doing a very good job with your children. I know that you are aware because you are already seeing some progress. Your hard work is paying off. So don't be discouraged that Kiki is still close to the introductory foods. My kids are too, and they have been on this diet for 4 months. Everything is still cooked, deseeded, and pureed. We are on stage 2. The progress has been slow, but it is still there. We are primarily impressed with the cognitive gains and behavioral changes that have taken place in these four months. I am completely astounded at how angelic my children are on this diet. Just yesterday, Margeaux's friend (who is 6 years old) even made an observation about Margeaux's improved behavior. We were at the park, and on a few occasions I asked Margeaux to come to me or perform other tasks. Every time her response was a cheerful, " Yes, mommy. " Abi, her friend, commented to her mother later on, " Mommy, Margeaux is just so good now! " And she is right! While Margeaux is not perfect, she is SO GOOD AND A COMPLETE JOY! That is completely as a result of the progress we've made with SCD and supplements (and God's merciful guidance in showing us these " helps " ). So while the gastrointestinal progress is rather slow, I know it is making a change. I see it happening in their brains and in their behavior. I am trusting that the gut progress will follow in time. I will pray for your husband and his job interview. It is obvious that you are a believer, and so I want to encourage you to continue to trust in His provision. He has led you to this diet, to this list, and to your upcoming DAN. He has his eye on your children, and I believe He intends to help them. Every time I start to doubt this in my own life, I review how good He has been to reveal to us the information we have so that we can help our children. The truth is that WE ARE THE LUCKY ONES! I see countless children and adults everyday that I know have the same gastrointestinal and mental problems that we have (you know how you begin to recognize it everywhere once you become informed). But those children and adults don't know what we know or aren't willing to listen. We are the lucky ones because we have found a big part of the answer and are willing to pursue it. Our " vicious cycle " will be broken. Others will continue in it. Take heart! God is on your side! You are a great mom to your kids, and you and God are going to see them through this. Cordially, Jeni Lynn (gastrointestinal problems) SCD 2 months mom to Margeaux, 6 yr. (heavy metal toxicity, add, gastrointestinal problems) , 3 yr. (heavy metal toxicity, at risk for add, gastrointestinal problems) Elle, 18 mo. (heavy metal toxicity, was at risk for autism . . . but no more, leaky gut) SCD 4 months Re: Jeni/Chelation Questions? Guest guest
Dear Jeni, Thank you for all your help and support. Could you tell me more about casomorphine? Could this be why I feel " drunk " when I eat to much yogurt....? Or is it die off? Have been dairy free for almost four plus years on and off...never could handle it because it made me feel " disconnected " , and problems with concentration.........this is the first time I have felt so well...yet if I eat too much goat yogurt feel foggy.....a little asd I think myself....no joke.....I too will be seeing DAN.
