Guest guest
Hi, I'm wringing my hands trying to figure out why we're not seeing results in my daughter's bm's. She's on the intro diet along with banana and a little applesauce for meds. She's not very happy. She was ok with the full scdiet when I jumped in without knowing yet about the intro diet. Her stools, although still diarrhea, were even better. She loved what I baked with almond flour. Now she's hungry a lot and frustrated with the food limitations. She never was a big meat eater. What could I possibly be doing wrong?! I had started the yogurt too soon (it is used to " moisten the DCCC " on the intro) I realize now, so I quit that. I'm working hard on food prep and not seeing a good response. My husband and I are pretty frustrated, but not going to give up. I have about a week before I have to call the Dr. who wants to put her on a new medicine that we don't want her on. I don't expect a complete turn-around, but I need to be able to give a good report and buy some more time. Any ideas? Thanks for reading, Karyn
Guest guest
Hi Karyn! What exactly is your situation? What is your daughter's condition? How long did you do the introduction without the banana and applesauce? My kids have been on the diet 4 months and have only showed tolerance to these fruits this past week (and my infant, well, she still can't do the applesauce). After a good run of the intro, introduce squash and pearsauce (these are easy to digest, and pears are very low in fructose). If your daughter is ASD, take out the dairy for a few weeks. It takes casein a few weeks to work itself out of the body, but you may see improvements during this time. If you do, then you will know that dairy is a " no go " for now. Give us all a few more details about your introductory foods and length of time as well as your daughter's condition. Guest guest
> > Give us all a few more details about your introductory foods and length of time as well as your daughter's condition. > Ok, here are the details: She was diagnosed about 1 1/2 yrs ago with Crohn's/UC. She ate a regular mostly american diet (a clean one though - very little junk) until about 2 weeks ago. When they first put her on pentasa, it was like a miracle. She was completely stable, but it only lasted a couple of months. They've tried a couple of different rectal meds over the past several months, and now she is just coming off her 2nd course of prednisone, which hasn't been effective. They also had us start Culturelle a long time ago. I discovered the scdiet and jumped in before finishing the book. She was ok with it, but pulling back and starting the intro diet has been very difficult. She continues to have diarrhea and has been waking up at night to go. This is a recent development. She hasn't done that since she first started having symptoms over a year ago. She's not eating enough now and is frustrated. I started bananas again 2 days ago. She's always eaten them, except while on intro. Maybe I should start Butternut squash which she's always loved. My husband is trying to get her to eat her soup now without much success. She's a challenge because she is so articulate! Thanks, Karyn
Guest guest
Just brainstorming: Is she on digestive enzymes? How old is she?...Can you explain to her what you're trying to do?... There is an explaination for kids at the pecanbread website. Can you keep her home from school for a while, to make sure no slips or infractions? Can you postpone/reschedule the MD appt, so it won't stress you so much? Is she allergic to anything on the intro diet?... Have you taken into consideration oxylates and phenols? Maybe this is die off... I think you and your husband are right to be committed to giving the diet a fair try. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for your ideas. She is 7 and we have explained it to her. She said her " body is aching for cheddar cheese " . That's probably true since she hasn't had any calcium in days. It's very hard on her. Thank goodness she likes the baked cottage cheese recipe. There are no school issues since I'm homeschooling her. She only gets what I give her. I don't know what oxylates and phenols are! We're trying to keep her spirits up. > > Just brainstorming: > Is she on digestive enzymes? > How old is she?...Can you explain to her what you're trying to do?... > There is an explaination for kids at the pecanbread website. > Can you keep her home from school for a while, to make sure no slips or infractions? > Can you postpone/reschedule the MD appt, so it won't stress you so much? > Is she allergic to anything on the intro diet?... > Have you taken into consideration oxylates and phenols? > Maybe this is die off...
