Here's a newsflash: Even if weight loss surgery is excluded as a

" non-covered procedure " in your policy, some companies will *still* pay

for the in-hospital charges and anaesthesia, they just won't pay the

surgeon's bill (Which I think is $3400 if you pay cash).

If you are denied because it is excluded from your policy, pursue this

angle with your insurance claims rep and the insurance company and see

if you don't have at least that much coverage. It's a lot better than

self-pay. :)

Union policies, especially, usually have this coverage.

Hmmm, I'll definitely keep this angle in mind, after my other avenue is

exhausted. If I am denied, then the appeal goes directly to my hubby's

employer where a small committee of people will decide my fate, one of

which is the owner of the company (and could probably benefit from

hearing about the MGB). My insurance is a self-insured thing.
