Guest guest
hi thanks for your thoughts. i think its because i had lock jaw, did not eat for almost 6 days. and absolutely no sleep. after a week of no food, sleep and the most extreme pain i've felt i kept vomiting and finally passed out. i was swollen badly, to the point i had problems moving air through my mouth and nose, they could not even get the thermometer in my mouth. the redness must have been the aggravated rosacea, brought on by the swelling. i was very, very red. almost like a bad rash. i think he got the tmj because they tried forcing my mouth open and it wouldn't budge, plus the intense swelling. the redness he said he accepted the derms call of rosacea, must be aggravated by the swelling or something. i've always had jaw popping and locking and pain when my jaw clicks, but always ignored it. i've always been told it was the rosacea first causing the swelling and pain. now they say it is the TMJ flaring up, and the rosacea reacting to it. he called neurology and they agreed with him. he said he was pretty sure. the valium helped me alot. now i'm to the point of near normal again, but am still unable to open my mouth wide. they said something about you can be prone to it if you have other joint problems, i have arthritis, hip dysplasia and scoliosis and also a neurologic disease. all i want is for that to never happen again. i won't mind the TMJ if it doesn't cause the rosacea to flare up as bad as it did. my pain was from the rosacea flare caused by the tmj...not the tmj itself (aside from the fact i could barely talk). so i have an appointment on monday. guess i'll see what they say. i'm just glad it seems to be resolving. that was the closest i've come to absolute misery....hopefully they can fix it. also i was tested for lupus again, but doubt i have that. derm department is stumped as to why i had that much pain. i'm a big discussion in their little meetings, or they got afraid of my dad's threats. whAtever. the ER people were great, very nice. thank you, do you still think it sounds like TMJ? i wonder if Tmj can be really severe and cause all that? or maybe its not..... Angie I'm so glad you are okay...horribe experience!!! Wow... I do have to say that the theory of TMJ sounds fishy...why would that cause you to pass out and vomit??? I have TMJ myself...the most pain it has caused me is ear aches and clicking at the jaw joint. TMJ stands for Temporal Mandibular Joint Syndrome. It is soooo frustrating not being able to get a straight answer from doctors these days...I do not have faith in them anymore and haven't for a long time. I, myself, have found ways to reduce redness and papules on my skin WITHOUT doctors help. Pretty sad... I hate to put a negative spin to this email, but I feel your frustration and hate for people to have to go through all the stuff you did. Sorry to hear about it and I hope things go smoother for you... Shea ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Guest guest
Honestly, I have never heard of TMJ causing all that...but I could be wrong. I'm by no means a doctor, but I've had this since I was 16...now I'm 31. I could have a mild TMJ condition though. It's never given me more problems other than the clicking and a little pain when opening my mouth wide. Lock jaw has got to be horrible to go through...I've always feared that would happen. I guess in your case it could pose a problem. It does sound like the doctors are trying to help out as much as possible, right? Good luck to you and let us know how your appt. goes.
