Guest guest
rockappoo, I also went onto the Jannsen Cilag site and it also said acidic puree/drink etc. I just typed in Jannsen Cilag. I have also e-mail Solvay and am awaiting there reply. enzymes. . . The hard outer coating of each of the granules is acid resistant, and therefore remains intact in acid solutions. This protects the enzymes from destruction by acid in the stomach. ***Yes, this true. But, the idea is to get the enzymes past the stomach (this is why the enzymes are enterically coated) so that they do their job in the small intestine. It is therefore necessary to MIX THE GRANULES WITH AN ACIDIC FOOD to retain that protection - such as PUREED OR MASHED FRUIT< OR FRUIT JUICE. ***This makes no sense. The stomach is acidic by nature. You would definitely not have to add more acid to the stomach to make the enzymes more effective. As a matter of fact, the orange juice that you think is so acidic, is way, way less acidic than the stomach secretions of hydrochloric acid that can break down food for digestion. The granules should NOT be mixed with water, milk, formula or other milky foods in which the coating would dissolve, exposing the enzymes to the acid environment of the stomach (and beginning to digest the food/formula before it is eaten). *** I think that you may be looking at this all wrong. If the enzymes are coated to provide protection against acidity, then how can it be that by mixing enzymes with a substance that is NOT acidic, that that would cause the enteric coating to dissolve and to expose the enzymes to the acid environment? I think that this makes no sense either. I really don't know why there are recomendations to take enzymes with acidic foods. This is from a Medical Journal from the Department of Nutritional Health in special needs ***Can you refer me/us to a source on the Internet that we can read this? Or, maybe you can show a study or a website from a company that sells enzymes so that I can read this? I am always looking to learn something new. But, this goes against my understanding of this, so it is difficult for me to follow the logic.
