Guest guest
Dear Deana, I have been told by our DAN! that chelation shouldn't start untill the gut and other organs have completely healed from the " vicious cycle " His name is Dr. Kucera and he is one of the top DAN!'s in the country right now. When ready he did say that it has helped kids get more speech though. Yet also shared that it can cause the bad gut guys to come back with a vingeance if the body is not ready for the imbalance that chelation cuases. He wouldn't do this with KiKI until she is at least one year out on SCDiet...or showing no more signs of celiac disease/injured intestines of any kind....and no more signs of yeast overgrowth. He said that Chelation alone can cause yeast overgrowth and serious set backs. With some kids they do not like to give anti-fungals due to age, size, or medical fragileness, condition of liver and other organs that have been affected by the vicious cycle going unchecked. The body can not chelate properly when this happens...when those dangerous metals start moving around...it can cause (possibly permanent) ticks and other nasty side affects if the liver and kideys can not excrete them properly. I do realize that this is not always the case with everyone here...but we can't chance it. She is still " fragile " although on the right road with SCD....other kids here could be in this same predicament and not know it. Our DAN! said that KiKi clearly could not tolerate any anti-fungal treatments right now, chelation..or much of anything (including certain enzymes), thanks to the condition of her liver, kidneys and organs. Even food was getting her sick in the beginning. For some of us we need to know this. It can be dangerous is done to early on in recovery. Again, the Dan! is the one who said this to us....... We are lucky that she is trying to talk. If she doesn't ...we will teach her facilitated language with the key board...regardles we will love her. She is obviously very smart in that head of hers.
