Guest guest
Flo, you took the words right out of my mouth. That is my biggest contention too. My childhood hasn't changed, albeit I'll admit it was not a pleasant one, BUT I don't have the compulsion to stuff myself with sugar and fast food that I have had for over 20 years. I can't explain it. Dr. R mentioned it in clinic with an example about chocolate, eating a whole box and then being able to eat one or two pieces and not care if you didn't have anymore. I remember he said something about the receptors being bypassed, so that chocolate for some would have the same effect in the stomach now as it does rubbing it on the back of your hand! It just doesn't do it for you anymore. Oh yes, now I remember also that he spoke about patients with feeding tubes, whose food is put into the same part of the intestines as ours. These patients don't have cravings either no matter what you put into the feeding tube. Dr. R, correct me if I'm wrong, or if you can clarify. Regardless, it is the most amazing feeling or lack of feeling I've ever had. I remember when I first got onto the board and everyone gushed about Dr. R. I thought, these are a bunch of silly boobs, going on and on about this guy! Well, now I understand. I'm free of the obsession and at 216 as of this morning, down from 238 pre-op. Life is good. Now...maybe for people who have a true eating disorder these things hold true. In my case, I believe that I was addicted. I believe I was physically addicted to carbohydrates in particular. >>
