Guest guest
cynicalsoul000, Sorry, don't know your name. I have autoimmune liver disease, specifically autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) in addition to chronic pancreatitis. I had a liver biopsy On Dec 27, 02 and was told I have AIH on January 6, 2003. I am currently on prednisone and Imuran (an immunosuppressant/chemo drug) to suppress my immune system and prevent or at least slow the damage to my liver. My biopsy revealed stage 3 fibrosis damage to my liver, with stage 4 being cirrhosis. If they can prevent the damage from progressing, I'll probably never need a transplant. However, the meds come with some potentially dangerous side effects. I really don't have a choice but to take the meds and deal with the side effects because without treatment, the 10 year survival rate for AIH is only 10%. What type of liver disease does your mom have or do they know what caused the damage? I have not heard that having a pancreas beyond repair would rule out having a liver transplant. I do know that occasionally they can do both a liver and pancreas transplant. Best of luck to your mother. I'll keep her in my prayers.
