how do i prevent my face from becoming a tomato after showering ???

ive already

a) installed a shower filter

B) tested water hardness.. its not that bad

c) take very quick showers

d) dont let any water touch my face

e) use different shampoos to see if thats cuasing the irritation

f) use lukewarm water

g) baths are out of the question because i wont have one during the

school year so i better get used to showering.

zinco seems to mildly help calm my face down afterwards but it still

doesnt help that much.

what else can i do ? except not take showers!? =O

I generally have the same problem with the shower turning my face

red. I don't know if this is possible for you to do but I don't wash

my hair in the shower because the water does seem to make its way on

my face no matter how hard I try to shield it. I wash my hair in the

sink. It's a pain because I have to wash my very oily hair every day.

I take my showers at night before I wash my face. I have zinco cream

on face and clip my hair up. Also, I try to keep the flow of water

low and have the shower head pointing directly towards the floor and

I don't stand right under it until I'm ready to rinse off. That seems

to help. If lots of water is shooting out of the shower at a strange

angle, chances are the water will be hard to control and get on my

face.

I hope these suggestions help.

Take care,

Here's another showering tip to add to the others:

I leave the shower door open about 2 " . (I think you'd have to experiment

depending on the type of shower you have...) but it really helps to keep the

interior of the shower from getting really steamy and hot.....and as a

result my face.

*Another idea to throw out there......could you just rinse your hair quickly

in the sink on some days (instead of shapmpooing it>? (my hair wouldn't get

oily if I didn't wash it for a year so I can do this sometimes.)

I tried washing my hair in the sink and it seemed that I got more water

running down my cheeks than if I just " turned around " in the shower. I wash

my hair from the back side rather than the face side - it keeps the soap off

my face also (the sink also gave me a back ache).

I truly sympathize with you because I have the same problem. The

only suggestion I have is to use cool water, not lukewarm. I start

out a shower with lukewarm water, then as the shower continues, I

make the water cooler and cooler. Even so, my face is reddened by

showering.

May I suggest showering the European style, ie. kneeling in the tub

and using a movable shower head. It gives you the best control of

where the water goes because the head is always in your hand AND

because one is kneeling in the tub, one is out of the warmest,

moistest air which rises.

I get the least redness by taking a short, cool shower, focusing on

washing my hair and body only. I don't let the shower water get on

my face at all.

After the shower, I dry off, wrap my hair in a towel, then

immediately go to the sink to splash my face with a little cetaphil

and cold water.

Oh yeah, I also shower with the door open and the fan off. Leaving

the door open keeps the air cooler, and leaving the fan off prevents

drafts (which makes it more comfortable to shower in cooler water.

Hello,

I use a washer ( American: flannel?) to shield my face while washing my hair

which works well.ItLs just you have to get used to washing with one

hand.Another thing that made a huge difference was using only conditioner, no

shampoo. At first my hair was horrible and limp but after a few weeks noone

could tell the difference and now itLLs better than most hair. I find I need

to use more conditioner than normal , enough to get through all my hair

thoroughly. But itLs worth it. No more problems with redness or itchiness.

Perfect for my seb derm/rosacea. I also never use soap - only aqueous cream

(Oz:sorbolene). I wash with it - theyLve just brought out a soap bar which is

great, but the cream version is fine too. Then I use the cream version to

moisturize post-shower.You should always dilute with water to avoid build up

but I cheat by just putting it on me while ILm still wet. Then pat down with a

towel.

Hope this helps someone. ItLs made all the difference for me - the big point

with all these things being not to irritate your skin in any way possible.

Fiona

PS: Thanks Tony for the water filter info.
