, what state do you live in?

In California we have what is called an IEP or individual education plan.

Also a section 504, that under state laws our kids fall into this category of

other health impaired. i have had an IEP in place for Nick before he entered

Kindergarten, and stipulated in it that the school was responsible for

enzymes, breathing treatments during school hours, as well as an immediate

home teacher, if Nick was ever hospitalized or at home on iv's, even if only

for a couple of days. Since he entered jr. High last year, we put this all

under a section 504. I also mandate in this plan the school is to change the

air filters in his classrooms on a monthly basis, as well as giving Nick

unlimited restroom priveleges, unlimited access to water, and he is allowed

to set his own limits in Physical Education. I hold them to this written

agreement by being quite assertive with them. They are all nice as long as

things are going smoothly and they don't have to go out of their way, but the

first little hiccup, and they try to back out. DON " T LET THEM! It is your

childs right to receive an education, a full education at that. If anyone is

not familiar with these laws, please contact the social Worker at your local

CF Center. They are familiar with these laws and will often times attend the

meetings with you when writing the IEP or 504 plans. Besides, they are

cheaper than lawyers, but do what ever you must to insure your child is not

denied his/her education.

Amber,

Nick's mom
